I have only just put my 20 yr old tbxwelsh in a medium weight rug! And the rest of mine are still in sheets and they all live out all year round!

And before everyone starts yelling at me, the other two are cobs who keep themselves very warm and my old boy has lived out all his life and therefore has a lovely thick coat. They obviously dont mind at all but I still feel a bit mean.

Edit to say WB and po are 22 and cobby 14

It's just I remember people putting these posts online in early September and I felt so guilty, even though my boys would be sweating like crazy if I did that in September!

if mine didnt have a cough and chest infection she would be in mw and she fully clipped living out 247. but she got mild infection so she wrapped up warm whilst she a bit under weather once fully ok she prob have a lighter rug on as i want to get some weight off

Just put a MW one on my elder pony today; other two natives look like yeti's and have never worn rugs

All out 24/7 unclipped

So no you are not mean at all, everyone else just pampers their horses too much

My newforest will not be rugged neither will my shettie, i do own rugs that fit them just in case. My 20yr old cob mare is not rugged yet as she is fat and hairy so will wait a bit longer for her also. I usually clip my mare and have always rugged her then, but she as been at the stud yard and their grass was good.

My poor share is out in a heavyweight

He's only got a blanket clip and most of that's grown out, and he's a tough Irishman, not a wimp. When I asked what he was going to be wearing after I clip him again in December I was told that his mediumweight had slipped a bit, so that clearly isn't satisfactory - but it's all right, he hasn't sweated up under the heavyweight yet! I'm afraid I might have said something at that point, but I was walking away under a cwt of Rambo so might have missed the bit where I was told to go and buy my own horse if I wanted to make decisions about it

I must be the sharer from hell.

If they aren't cold there is no problem, is it important what other people think?

I have two broodmares in MW's at night (down to -8C lately) but naked during most of the day, the yearling and foals aren't rugged at all.

I asked Robin and Zeus if they wanted rugs on (walked up to them with their rugs) and they said "No thankyou". If they are cold, I know from experience that they'll practically walk under their rugs if they want them.
