Ive had so much crap in the last 10 days (not including the saga of the mare being re homed by the 'LAV' in a place not even suitable for a goat) that Im seriously thinking----ENOUGH!
Before I go back to the above mare I would like to rant about a bloody awful blacksmith and the mare I have on livery with the buggered DFT
.
Gypsy has to be shod every 25 (?) days-her toes kept very short and the shoes in Alluminium with plastic between heels and shoe and very long so has to wear over reach boots 24/24. The owners wanted their blacksmith to continue shoeing her-fair enough! Said blacksmith ISNT qualified, is the owner of the yard they rent and was the instructor-he woke up one morning and decided to become a 'blacksmith'
This is the norm here in Italy. Anyway, he has come here to shoe her 3 if not 4 times-the penultimat time, the mare lost her DFT foot shoe the day after he shod her. This meant he had to come back and bang the shoe back on. He wasnt a happy bunny and so that he could be sure of a wonderful weekend at Arezzo (international SJ) he plastered (as in broken arm plaster) the shoe to her foot!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor girl had such pressure build up in her heel that she was eating the walls of her box with the pain
. Oh got a huge set of cutters out and cut the bloody thing off then I started with IV bute, meflosyl and co (on vets advice
). He has been back just over a week ago and the mare is now unable to walk
Before he left I got the mare out of her box to see how she was after being left cold for half an hour-she could not walk and was groaning with the pain-she had the most awful digital pulse and was sweating. I said to the blacksmith and he told me that seeing as she had walked up sound(ish) infront of her owners (by now they had left) I should mind my own Effing business. His feet didnt touch the floor on his way out!
mare has been on IV anti inflamsX3 a day plus antibiotics IV and Ive still got 3 to 4 days worth to do! She must have a liver like a teabag and veins like Swiss cheese. She still cant walk!
The mare who I sent to my friends on livery as I hadnt a box for her is back here under the piddling rain, thin, with breathing difficulties, shoes banged on by a groom which are 2 times too small for her but with nails big enough to keep a cruiseliner ship together
Vet has been out to visit her and shes got 8 days of powders and IV injections plus my blacksmith is coming on Thursday to save the saveable
. I had my very EX friend on the phone to my oh trying to justify the facts-we dont understand the problems of having a herd of horses, the mare was thin when she arrived and as she would have ended up at the slaughter house anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WTF? I swear, I am so angry
. When I have calmed down and the mare has stopped doing 20 metre circles 24/24 in her field I will go and tell a few home truths to Petra. Theres lots more but I dont have the time nor the patience to write it down. Sorry if Ive burned your ears, Im thoroughly disgusted with life
