ok so i went to view a gelding on saturday...15.1 sports horse. i rid him and jumped him and i fell madly in love with him. i felt like i had this connection with him, it felt so right like we were perfect together.
his owners were very happy with me and i was very happy with him. it was all arranged that they were gonna bring him to me on saturday afternoon, i even made his stable up and filled it with hay!
then i received this email this morning

Hiya Chelsea I know you were really looking forward to having Denzil but I've decided I can't live without him - so I'm moving him to a different yard so I can ride out and stuff with other people I know you were really looking forward to having him and I'm so sorry to have messed you about xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

needless to say i was gutted...im heartbroken and have been teary all day....i honestly thought he was the one for me.
to have it torn away from me in a heartbeat....its so upsetting.
anyone else had this similar sort of problem??

How gutting for you :( I had a horse sold from under me before and was quite upset, but the following weekend I saw a horse that I wasn't to sure on she turned out to be be amazing and now I have her :). So it may seem like a disaster now but thenext perfect horse culd be just around the corner.

its funny you say that because im going to see a 15.2 chunky bay mare on thursday who seems just as good as the one i was supposed to be getting. just got the text back from the lady :) still absolutely gutted though xx
im sorry u had to go through that to hun x

I understand how you feel completely i had almost the same thing happen to me.

I went to a see a horse and fell in love with her but as i had ended up with a pony who wasn't right i wanted to be sure and come back again in 2 days time to jump her and get a friends opinion i had asked if they would not let her go to anyone till i had viewed her again as i was almost sure we would have her they gave me all the "home is far more important come and see her as many times as you need to blar blar" I had wasted a hole day at the yard talking with the owners fussing over and riding the horse only to be txt the next day being told sorry someone came with a trailer so shes gone!!! I was gutted to say the least but found out she went to a nice home thankfully as she did have one little issue.

Then the horse i bought after this is totally not suitable threw me off onto a fence and needs alot of work to restart her so is stuck in my field trying to find someone suitable to have her for free... easier said than done and i hope the next horse i get is the right one maybe 3rd time lucky.

I hope your new horse search finds you an even better horse.

I found a horse that seemed just right for me, she failed the vetting with a problem that i couldnt accept if she was to do tbe job i had in mind for her. I ended up buying a horse who has turned out to be perfect for me in so many ways i cant believe how lucky i am to have her.

aww im so sorry to hear that. i had the exact same problem except mine was more complicated, was a scam, bought absolutely everything for the horse, been waiting to get him for months while the stables were getting sorted, week before he was due to come things came out..lies, he got took away my heart was broken and still is:( im not explaining the full story for personal reasons and if i did you wouldnt believe it, i couldnt make it up! but now ive got a stunning mare who is the one on my sig, i thought ! was the one but he wasnt, i promise you the right one will come along when its meant to be:)

aww thats terrible...whats wrong with some people!! do they not understand that people do have feelings!! thank you x

It was obviously meant to be and the owners had their reasons which must be respected. The right one is just round the corner and you will look back on this thread in a couple of months and smile about your new one! Chin up!

Its fate!

The same happened to me- absolutely loved a pony i went to see agreed to have it and they were going to deliver....waited and waited phoned to be told "sorry i have no idea about any horse" - devastated.

Few weeks later saw another advert went to view and still had him 18 years later, my most loved horse/animal maybe even person ever! If the first one had worked out id never have got my baby!

Poor you, what a shame they didn't have the decency to at least phone you.

I hope you hadn't given them any money? Did you pay to have him vetted?

Cynical side of me says, please keep an eye out for the advert and make sure he isn't still advertised..

Would you like another horse? I have plenty!!! Sorry, trying to make you smile.

This happened to me with a pup once. The "breeder" 'couldn't part with it'. The pup grew into a runt with missing dentition and all sorts of problems so I was quite pleased fate saved me from that!!

Hope this other one is as good.

Very bad of the buyer to have done that and ffs as if her adding xxxxx makes it any better!!!

Oh no :(
Sometimes things happen for a reason, like everyone else said - a MORE suited horse will come along. When things are meant to happen they will :D
Keep searching

Try not to be too sad about it, everything happens for a reason. It may not make sense to you today, tomorrow or even a week from now, but the reason will show itself eventually.

Sometimes life has a roundabout way of doing things, but you'll get what's right for you in the end.

I rang up about a mare but she was sold. Then I saw another similar one advertised from the field. I went to look at her liked her and arranged to go back and do more with her a few days later - vendor's convenience, they were busy until then. I got a message that vendor's brother had sold her from the field the next day . Woman I'd spoken to was very apologetic, etc, etc. I stopped looking for a while.
Then the first one was re-advertised a few months later by the people who'd bought her when I rang. She has now been here for about 18 mths and is absolutely perfect for the job I wanted her to do.
This one obviously wasn't the perfect horse for you but the right one will come along.

Agree completely with folk who have said things have a strange way of working out. I loaned a lovely 14.1 mare from a RS for 6 months but didn't have the money to buy. She was sold but kept at the yard....and new owner wanted help to bring on and, quite frankly, a fall guy to do the jumping/xc schooling so I kept the ride. It lasted about 6 weeks and then she pulled the plug - YO said it was because I had better partnership with pony than owner did. I remember the last time I turned her out I was heartbroken. 6 weeks later YO "gave" me a new pony to the RS to see what I could do with as he had napping issues and was a pacer. He was willing but progress didn't suit YO as he still wasn't a kids pony and at 13.1 too small for most adults. it came to a head when she had a family coming to see him and on a complete whim I bought him with the intention of finding him a proper and right home. Then he had a last growth spurt, made 14.1 (spooky!) and we've been together 6 years next month. He jumped his first Intro xc fences at training on Sunday at only his 4th xc outing (only under the tuition of David Gatherer I hasten to add!). He is with me for life....and looking back his temperament and personality are so much more suited to mine than the little mares. She I should say went to a VERY wealthy individual and will have a home for life too.

hi guys, thank you so much for all of your replies!!
no i didnt have him vetted and also didnt pay any money as he was going to be on loan for the first 6 months! i guess your all right when you say that things happen for a reason.
guido 16 im still looking for a horse so if you do have anything available private message me :) im looking to loan something first so that i can be sure we are the perfect fit. it really is such a shame when it happens but like you say there are loads more out there and ive got chance to go and view a 15.2 bay mare tomorrow morning so im trying not to get my hopes up and to excited :(

Yes me. I went to see a horse that I wanted to buy. Tried him out but really suspicious of person selling him as they had no papers for him, the tack didn't fit, the bit was pony size, etc. the horse wasn't branded or freezemarked. I rang up Horsewatch as I thought he'd been stolen. Turned out the police paid the owner a visit and she got into loads of trouble as she was set up as a dealer and wasn't paying any tax.

She told me she wouldn't sell me the horse even though I was happy it wasn't stolen and didn't really care about her tax avoidance!

This all happened on Xmas Eve. Next day I sat through Xmas dinner crying my eyes out, I was so very upset.

Boxing day Dad and I went to a dealers whom I'd bought my first horse off. Dad told the dealer what had happened and he asked the horses name. Incredibly he'd got the horses papers in his office and said the seller had part exchanged a youngster for the horse I'd looked at but still owed him the balance so he'd withheld the papers till she'd given him what he owed her. She'd planned to pay him back on the sale of the horse.

He agreed to ring her and square it with her and we'd pay £200 for the privilege which we did and Billy came home with me on the 29th December after passing his five stage vetting. He was my dream horse and i loved him soooo much. Sadly I lost him a couple of years later as a complication to a severe injury sustained on a fun ride, but never regretted paying the extra money so I could buy him. Nor did I regret telling Horsewatch about a possible stolen horse.

Its a shame, but things like that just happen in life and you have to be able to just let them go. How bad do you think the owner would have been feeling right now if she had let him come to you?

Trying to buy a horse can be an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. Its the way it goes, try and be patient and the right one will find you eventually. :)

There is always another horse, and while I know lots of people get very emotional about horses, it really is better to be a bit more head-over-heart about the whole process. The overly emotional approach is the reason so many people seem to end up with a nightmare rather than the apropriate horse for them - not for a minute suggesting this would have been the outcome here, but hope you can see the logic of the thinking.

Quoted for truth!

These are wise words OP.

Something even better will come along...:)

Oh no, your poor thing how awful for you. I am a great believer in things happen for a reason!

I had a friend, that sold her horse and then couldnt bare to part with him. The purchaser had paid to have him vetted etc, and she ended up giving them the money back they'd spent and even paying their fuel. She just couldnt bring herself to part with him!

I had a similar thing with a horse I was going to buy, but the owner didnt stop me buying it, the vetting did!

I was gutted when the horse failed the vetting, and I decided not to buy it.

But if I hadnt decided not to buy him I would never had found my new horse!!

And my new horse is amazing!! comparing the two (bias slightly now I know) but my new horse is so much better suited to me than the one that failed the vetting!

Have faith there is one out there waiting for you to find him!! :D

I can understand how you feel. I went to try a mare out when I was 13 (I'd outgrown my first pony considerably so it was time to upsize!) and having ridden her around the local countryside with the owner's sister, I fell in love. She'd done everything before, PC, hunted, jumping, the works and was a dream to ride. She made everything so easy to do and I really wanted her. But then my dad said she was too much money :(

So he brought home a barely backed lunatic pacer with 'mental issues' that (even now I still believe) was wholly unsuitable. But 10 years later, having bought that mare, I found my best friend in the whole world (Smokey), have found two of the most amazing jobs because of her, have ended up with a number of other pacers, bred some wonderful foals, fallen into the world of racing and met my future husband and soulmate :) I can honestly, hand on heart say, that if my dad hadn't brought that mare home and had bought the first mare I tried, my life would be COMPLETELY different!

Trust me, it's always alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end!

I've had this happen too a couple of times, the first was a retired show jumper who basically the lady had jumped into the ground too young and it's legs were knackered, but it would have been OK for what I wanted which was just happy hacking, I went away to think on it overnight and she sold it that afternoon. Nearly a year later I heard the horse really was totally knackered, and after just being used as a happy hacker in his new home he was un-ridable, and had to be kept as a pasture pet - so that was a close call!
Another we looked at, had vetted etc, was sold under us, a year later the horse was for sale again as the stud owner was retiring, so we bought him over the phone, and went down the next day to pick him up - an 8 hr drive so not a short trip! He was a shadow of what we had seen the year before as the stallion mans approach was that stallions must be dominated and he used a piece of blue pipe to 'manage' him even though he was the sweetest thing when we saw him the year before!, but we thought he would be fine with plenty of tlc. We had him for a year with endless problems and he got thyroid cancer and we had him pts - he was only 6! So it really wasn't meant to be the first time!

So now I think things that are meant to be will happen, things that don't, even if at the time they seem the right thing, are obviously not meant to be! You never know what is round the corner with an animal, so maybe it is for the better that you didn't get this horse and the perfect one will come along that you would have missed if you hadn't lost this sale.

Just make sure you get a vetting and take someone else with you so you are not ruled solely by your heart!!:D
