My 11yo daughter's pony (18yo) was PTS on Monday night after being ill over the weekend. Pony was originally mine,I sold her and then bought her back in 2005 for my daughter. Obviously we are upset about losing her but we are already thinking about getting another pony

. It isn't that she has nothing to ride as we still have her 12hh NF and my Fell (plus several people I know have offered her ponies to ride).
I believe in fate and all that & I'm sure the right one will find us,but so soon?
Maybe I've just become hardened to life,my youngest daughter has a heart condition and we nearly lost her in the summer. (Thankfully we celebrated her first birthday on Friday

(ETA This isn't the first horse I've had PTS,not that it makes it any easier)

Hunny - you are not being heartless. Just take it steady - like you say one will find you. You did absolutely everything that you could for that mare, and cant blame yourself at all. Cally would want your daughter to carry on having fun and going to pony club.

Your not hard hearted - its called, making each day count, looking forward not behind. Do what you feel is best, it sounds like you have already been through a lot of trauma. No-body will critise you for looking for another pony.

It can take months or days to find the right pony....and the chance doesnt come around very often. Take the chance when it happens!!
I would do the same as you.
I had my beautiful dog PTS in June last year. She had been my best friend through a nasty divorce and all the poo that goes with it.....2 days later I was at the Greyhound rescue centre and a week later I got Finian!!
I remember my Mom thought I was heartless...lol.

My sympathies on the loss of your pony.
Of course you're not hard hearted and it sounds like you have already had a serious wake up call with your young daughter, so to a certain extent, your priorities will be slightly different to another's. Without being harsh and no offence intended to anyone; you have learnt what truly matters and I feel you should make each minute count whatever you're doing, so I say go for it and hopefully, you'll find another pony that will match you all and give you some more fun.
Besides, I'm a great believer in that something will turn up when you least expect it!
