i feel sad...

was going through an old post as i wanted to read what had happened after i had left the forum and am sad to say that the OP was never in fact actually answered, and the OPer was being attacked for things outside their control.

I know everyone is entiltled to their own opinions, but why do we all try and change another persons perspective just because it dosent "agree" with our own?
then the posts can get nasty with evil little(or long

) pms, and even comments such as "you are not fit to own a horse".
Also then people can be patronising, and discard someones view just because they are not "professional" or they are in a riding school. we must try to not be biased in that aspect, as again we are all still learning, and yet we all can make very valid points.

therefore, i propose that we put some topics of "heated debates" under open question like in politics ( people can have their own opinions about certain topics but are not allowed to bring them up on the forum, and if they do we can have a quick poll on the subject to stop peoples noses getting out of joint

which topics do you propose that we could put as an open question?

It is a lovely idea, but the concept of being free to express an opinion on every subject is pretty entrenched here. If we had this arrangement you could be sure that every subject matter has a forum member somewhere that has strong feelings about it.

I do agree that there is often a lack of civilised debate, and it is often the same people that do not seem to be able to discuss a subject without recourse to personal comments. Maybe they simply don't know how to debate and discuss - it is a skill after all.

Surely part of the point of this board is debate.

The problem is surely that some people are over sensetive, and some people like goading them... also that some people are very forthright in the way they express themselvs.

Sad fact is that some people aren't very bright, and others never progress beyond the level of the playground... hence more intelligent and mature users get upset and frustrated.

Thats life!

When the immature people have been around horses a little longer they will come to realise that there are different ways of doing things, not better, not worse, just different.

Also, an experienced horseperson knows enough to know that they don't know everything!

You may think it's clever to stir up trouble between the_winter and I, but her probation officer, therapist and counsellor will be very unhappy with you.
She'll probably be forced to increase her medication, too.
