You have no idea how guilty I feel.

I spent an hour with Lotti at the yard this afternoon, grooming, trimming etc whilst waiting for the blacksmith. I put her back in her stable for 15 mins whilst I dashed home to get my cheque book. When I got back to the yard he had arrived and already made a start when he points out a large swelling on her front leg. How did that happen in 10 mins? I couldn't possibly have missed it surely?

Anyway, she was really naughty to be shod, she is sometimes fidgety with one front leg because it is turned in but today she was very difficult with all four. I even resorted to pinching her top lip to get it finished but luckily I have a very quiet and patient farrier. I poulticed her leg and put her back in. A couple of hours later I went back down to check the bandaging and turn her out in the small paddock but when I went into the stable to skip out I noticed extensive scuff marks on the back wall and the weatherboarding had been kicked out!

Obviously in the 10 mins she had been left alone she had got cast! I suspect she was feeling very battered and bruised which was why she was naughty being shod and it explains the mystery swelling. I feel so guilty - poor Lotti.

Dont feel bad it was a complete accident.I had horrendous time last week I tied my boy up to be cold hosed our mare had kicked him.He panicked and pulled the post he had been tied to.I hadnt realised but the yo had changed all the twine for strong stuff..The twine didnt break and he pulled the whole post and with nails attached.Poor boy went running up to his field with 6ft piece of wood his quick release lead rope didnt work either. So I know how you are feeling I felt bad for days .Not even a apology from yo when I told him what had happened.Sounds like we have both got bruised and battered horses at the moment.

Accidents happen, my mare got caught in the fencing when we were at work, no-ones fault, one of those things, just like what happened with your horse.

No, I feel guilty for getting tough with her when she was being difficult to be shod and squeezing her top lip when all the time she was uncomfortable

Not at all, better that we worry about them than not care

BUT I am sure we worry after they have forgotten all about the incident.

Oh no, when we had had the new girl for one week, she booted my fool of an Appy (why a 15:3 lightly built Appy thought a 16:3 IDx would move if she told her to THREE times, ignoring the pulled face twice is beyond me!) We had one retired horse, one broken horse and one who we didn't feel should be going out on her own, plus we then had the new girls shoes removed. I hope your girl recovers quickly and that your other one comes right soon.
