Well this is very self indulgent and I'm probably just feeling sorry for myself and need a massive kick up the backside (and it is quite a large one at that)
Nearly 8 months ago I lost Henesy. He was my horse of a lifetime, my best pal, my saviour when I was feeling fed up and my fellow countryside explorer.
For the last few months I have been trying to find a nice horse that I can hack, take on sponsored rides and maybe do a little bit of cubbing/hunter trialing with.
I do not want a world beater...just something that I can enjoy like I did with Hen.
I am worried about buying, as I have had so many bad experiences. So - for now, I am hoping to loan. Something at least 16.2hh, a good solid dependable weight carrier (I am 13 1/2 stone and 5'10"). I can't find one anywhere :(

I already own a 17.1hh TB ex point to pointer. He is an absolute treasure and very talented at going round and round in circles. BUT...he will not safely hack off road. So he is an over indulged, expensive, part time road hacker, part time dressage master for my friend and a very soppy efficient lawn mower. He is with me for life and I love him dearly, but I can't do what I want to do which is hack.

I know I am lucky - I have my TB, a wonderful family and quite possibly the best husband ever. :)
As each day goes by, I am missing Henesy more and more. I know that it is because he was perfect for everything that we did together and we had an amazing bond. But surely I can get that "something special" with another horse?

I am desperate for another neddy to fill that huge Henesy gap, but am so worried that I will never achieve that.

Pointless post really...but I know I am not the only one to hurt so much over losing a friend.

No Easter eggs on offer I'm afraid (I have eaten them all as I am a down in the dumps fat greedy piggly)
But thank you for reading anyway.
And because I love him so much....here he is...

Oh hun *hugs*. I am so sorry you feel so down in the dumps. Your boy was truely a magnificant animal and it can be hard to fill the hole they leave. But he is happy and free in the meadow in the sky, and he would not want you to be this down. :(

I am forever looking for a horse for you. Delicia has turned into a good hacker, you are more then welcome to come and waste away hours on her back. Why not come and hire out a school horse and we will go exploring in the forest together? xxx Keep your chin up, your lawn mower is beautiful and talented, you are a fantastic person and i am so glad i can call you a friend. :)

He's pretty gorgeous!
As another who is feeling down in the mouth today, I sympathise. Horse hunting is really, really hard work. You get your hopes up, just to find it's gone. You move on to the next, it's not quite as described...continue til you've had enough!!
Have some of my jaffa cakes and a glug of tea. And a hug, seems to be doing me some good atm :)

Aww your boy sounds and looks lovely :)

Try not to compare every horse to Hen. They will never match up i am afraid well maybe not until the hurt is less raw.

Your perfect horse is i am sure out there and if not then find one you like and develop them into what you are looking for - lets face it most of us have to do that with our husbands!!

Have you any friends with hackers you could go out whilst you carry on looking? Might help to have some fun out on someone elses and take your time looking for Mr/Mrs right.

I am dreading ever having to replace my old boy who I do a lot of hacking with and pleasure rides etc. I really hope you start to feel better, go and give your TB a cuddle :)

Well he certainly was a stunner!!

This might sound a bit out of place and by no means is ANY critism etc meant but I think that when we loose something special we forget a lot of the not so good bits so this might be you're missing him more and more but I'm sure you have so many beautiful memories of him! He sounds like a one in a life time!

Have you thought about getting an older horse? I know on project horses there are sometimes horses that are only suited to a slow hacking life?

I really hope you find a special horse again! I'm sure there are plenty owners out there that want nothing more than a nice hacking home for their horses so I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hope you feel better soon xx

Bless you BH.
I will definitely come forest exploring with you.
Thank you so much. HHO has brought me some fantastic friends.

Thank you for all of your comments. They have already cheered me up no end. xx

So sorry to hear you are feeling this way. He was a stunning horse and when they go they will always leave a gap. I'm just about to embark on my search for a new one too. It might seem quick, and it's really my head that's driving me forwards, but I really want to be out there doing stuff. I think my heart may take a time to catch up though. I know I can't replace my girl, but I can make space in my heart for another special horse and I am sure you will do as well in time. Hugs. xx

*hugs*
No worries hun, i am fortunate that i have never had to lose a horse myself. But i can understand and sympathise. As someone has already pointed out, dont try to replace Hen, but find yourself something similar :) xxx

Thank you - your post makes perfect sense. The only not so good bits with him was when he was badly injured twice before being diagnosed with wobblers. Even on 19 weeks of box rest, he was still an absolute star.
Oh and he did weave occasionally when he wanted his food!

I am so grateful to you all, sometimes it just takes a kindred spirit to put you back in touch with reality.

It is truly awful to lose such a wonderful friend, especially if they've been a friend for a long time. I dread the day my old boy says its time. However, try to get out hacking on friends horses as much as you can, youll realise that you can enjoy hacking on perhaps different types of horses to henesy and therefore your search may widen slightly. You will find a horse, stay positive
Xxx

Another one who's down in the dumps, one week on from losing my boy :( so just sympathy really and (((hugs))) your boy was very beautiful. I'm sure there's another special friend out there waiting for you to find them xx

Bless you, been there and done that :( I still can't bring myself to get another, so spend my time with daughters pony, which has given me a great incentive to loose weight do I can have a pop on him!!!!

Lost 1/2 stone in 3 weeks, 2 stone to go before I dare put him through it :)

Have you tried TB rescue? They match the owner to the horse, and I know bransby have a couple of crackers ready to go to loan homes

Oh NO! I am so sorry to hear that.

Please take some hugs back...

It is without a doubt, the worst thing ever to lose a special horse. I have had so much sadness through losing horses. The sheer pleasure that they bring makes them so worthwhile...but the heartache and pain when you lose them is just the pits.
