Had a well recommewnded saddler come out to me last night. On the telephone conversation over a week ago, I let him know my budget, (upto £700). He brought me TWO (yes, 2) brand new saddles. One was £1400, the other was £1800. His callout was £55. I paid, but having thought about it all day, im furious! Oh well, I guess for yesterday I was the "one born every minute"... So on the hunt for a good saddler again!
 
ooh id be fuming and wouldnt have paid! Not fair to do that when knew your budget and has lost himself some business there by not bringing a saddle in budget silly man!!
 
I would be. He's completely wasted your (and his) time. I'd challenge the call out fee, or get him to come put again, with suitable saddles this time, and not charge for the second visit.
 
Did he bring any saddles within your budget, or only the two you mentioned? If he only brought those two, that's bad, I'd be well miffed and wouldn't have paid.

I would be peeved too and would not want to pay the call out fee.
You stated your budget and he did not come with a single saddle within that budget, what an idiot.
Am sure there are some good ones out there who will listen to the customer!

I lost confidence in saddle fitters. I used one recommended to me from Northampton. He told me none of my saddles fit my horse (I had 3). He recommended a brand new saddle made to fit my horse, which I agreed to.
A girl on my yard recommended a lady locally who is a saddle fitter, but doesn't actually sell saddles, only flocks etc. She told me two of my saddles were a good fit and one of them needed no flocking whatsoever to fit my horse!
Needless to say, I cancelled my order.....
