Today I took some goodies to the local dog rescue and fell head over heels in love with a young greyhound bitch.

She is petite, blue and absolutely adorable.

She was very affectionate, couldn't get enough fuss and was rubbing herself against me like a cat. I wanted to bring her home.

I am not in a position to adopt her or she would be here with me now.

If you are interested in this treasure then please PM me and I will give you further details.

Meeting her brightened my day after this morning's incident. A black lab left his owner 50m away and ran straight up and attacked my dog who was on his lead. My feelings of goodwill to all men disappeared rapidly.

I am another sight hound fan. I've never had a pure bred greyhound but have had lurchers and a whippet. They were very affectionate and loved to snuggle up to each other, the cats and to me. This girl was exceptionally loving (I was a stranger to her) and somebody will be very lucky to have such a sweetheart in their lives.

I hope your dog is OK sd

Thank you for your concern. Although the dog bit him it did not penetrate the skin so we got off lightly this time.

Luckily my husband was with me so while I was restraining 47 kg of GSD he grabbed the other dog's collar before he could bite again and hauled it back to the owner, it was still snarling and growling. I usually walk him alone and I shudder to think what would have happened if the situation had been allowed to escalate.

I had already taken a detour to avoid them. The owner was on his phone and was oblivious until it was too late. He told my husband he was very sorry!

I just hate it when I can't protect my dog and feel I betray his trust when I am holding him and preventing his escape and he is unable to retaliate.

I keep idly thinking about another one, but a bitch with 2 entire males would really screw up the dynamic I think, and ex racers arent usually cat friendly. Hopefully she gets snapped up. Blues are alway very popular!

You are spot on, LW - she is not cat friendly. She is such a poppet that I can't see she will have long to wait for a home.

It's so easy for them to wriggle into your heart. I work at an animal sanctuary and I struggle to tell myself not to bring home all the dogs (small flat long work hours no garden) but I've fallen head over heels for a very sad looking bull lurcher who is not happy with other dogs in the kennels and has gotten in a few scraps, but is a complete softy with people. I go and spend my lunch breaks in the kennels with him when I can and all he does is climb into my lap and lie there - breaks my heart.

Let's hope your girl finds a home in the New Year! (And that the labrador owner gets a wake up call in the near future!)
