let me start like this... I am moving myself to this forum because the people on another forum forgot that I had feelings so please be nice.
I found this horse for loan and my mum said that if she is available near my birthday, she can get her for me! I'm really happy about this, people on another forum said that I don't know enough about horses but I have spent around a year researching everything about them, from care to behaviour, to annattomy and me and all my family and friends think I'm ready to loan one for a bit but I'm worried she'll hate me! That's what the other forum made me feel like. By the way I do have real experience with horses otherwise I wouldn't dream of putting this gorgeous mare in my care, I've been riding for ages and took a really long break from riding when I moved to the UK but I'm back at it. One 9f the pictures is the mare and the other one is how the other forum people just jumped to conclusions about my horse experience.

I’m sorry that you feel that the other posters were being unkind.

they are however right really whether you agree with that or not.

I would want references for a potential loaner - who would be riding and taking care of what is essentially MY horse still.
Volunteering is fun and a great way to get experience and apply the knowledge you’ve learned from reading.

a lot of people who only have riding school experience, even if they are “really good riders” (I’m not disputing that you are or not...) they have no experience with animal husbandry.

Are you trying to loan her for one month, as the screenshot suggests?

You sound very young and it doesn't sound as if you or your mum understand how loaning works. It's not really possible just to loan for a month if a horse is advertised as a full loan.

Lease and loan is essentially the same thing. Lease is just quite American terminology.

no sorry accounts and comments can’t be deleted this is why it’s important to think about what is being posted on a public forum with lots of traffic!

The horse's owner may well not be keen to loan to you, it's not like just walking into a shop and buying something that you see, or leasing a car As others have said, although perhaps not very kindly, you really need hands on experience before most loaners will allow you take care of their horse. Vounteering with a RDA group or a city farm or similar would give you valuable experience although I am not sure that such opportunities are available in the current situation.

Have you not read about my knowledge and experience and my birthday is in a while so I can get more.

as I've mentioned I know all there is to know about horse care... even first aid. And i have a bit of hands on experience too.
Seriously - if you really believe that, you need to spend a lot of time gaining a lot more experience. NO-ONE knows all there is to know about horse care. I've got 40 years of hands on experience, much of it with international competition horses, I have lots of professional qualification, my job is caring for other peoples horses - and every year I spend around horses makes me realise how much more there is to learn

i did read it. You’ve spent a year reading books. Great start but not even scratching the surface unfortunately.

I’ve ridden 25 years, had horses on and off since a child and I’d describe myself as only fairly experienced. Some areas I have no experience in whatsoever!

No where near the confidence and knowledge you are claiming.

I admire your enthusiasm but if you think you know everything and aren’t open to advice from others, that’s quite frankly reckless to be honest.

Horses are here to make fools of us all.
I suggest you look at the BHS loan agreement, and think about how much it will cost to keep, some livery yard put on price their webs sites.

If you still at school a huge factor is time, the clocks go back in a few weeks and it makes it difficult to do anything after school.
A lot of us have been where you are now, I didn't get my own pony until I was nineteen and could pay for it myself, so had to ride other peoples often very imperfect ponies and do a lot of mucking out.

Sorry, I meant lease. ?

Hi, the photo of the pony shows it to be a loan, not a lease. I'm afraid that for a loan you would usually have to make contact and sell yourself to the owner, so they trust you with their horse. Many people on here have loans, and there have been threads where people have asked advice as to how to impress owners enough thatchy are chosen.

I regret to say that not many people would loan for just a month, it would simply nt be worth the whole palaver of showing you round, what goes where etc for just a month, especially as you are not so experienced.

also if I didn't make it clear, I was asking how to bond with a horse and have a good relationship with her

When you do eventually get a pony, please put 'bonding' out of your mind and focus on learning how to manage it, not 'have a relationship' with it. A good relationship comes from that. Bonding comes nowhere, a pony is not a baby.

Guys, it's pretty obvious the OP is a young child, who has a very high opinion of their capabilities (as they do) whilst not understanding the basics in the mechanics of loaning a pony.
I really don't think it's worth forum space or your efforts in responding now, do you?

Yes, I think it's worth forum space.

I think a long as we are kind and not rude, we can help her a lot by being realistic about what she needs to do to fulfil her dreams.
.

this!
I’d honestly rather be guided rather than ending up in a world of trouble. Especially as it sounds like she has non-horsey parents, proper sound advice could prove invaluable. It just depends if OP wishes to take it.

It’s sadly people like this that end up buying the unsuitable ponies because they are cheap and just simply desperate for a pony (understandable!)
So any advice given I would hope helps OP secure a suitable volunteer/helper/work experience position and eventually a loan or share situation.

I forgot to mention that I've been around horses since the age of five, when I moved to the uk I took a bit of a ponyless break that made me super sad by the way.
Has the owner agreed to this?
No its my plans but we will contact her to ask

OK, we get it HMP, but the UK is very different from the US, and what we call 'blowing your own trumpet' can really put people's backs up on this side of the pond.

And especially where horses are concerned, nobody ever knows it all.

How long have you been riding?
Hours per week etc?
do your parents have horses? (Just regarding your support network)
How would you describe your competency in the saddle.

I could take the time teach the basics of stable management supervised if they were willing to learn and if I was satisfied that they weren’t going to spoil my horse under saddle. Some RS students ride very well but are not used to riding “privately owned” horses.

HMP, how long are you looking to loan a pony for? The screen shot you put up suggested your mum was going to loan the pony for one month as a birthday present. Is that right?
