Well, at least the person who owned him first. I don't believe they're the ones who let him get in the state he was in when he came to YO's, there's a picture of him and he looks absolutely fantastic! He's obviously young as he's still bum high :P

If you were me, would you contact them? I was thinking of sending a picture and a little note to say how he's doing.

I had finally plucked up the courage to ask YO to have a look at his passport :D It's been very exciting! I found out his parents names and that his father was a good lookin' harness racer! I found his grandfathers family tree and it looks like he's got a cool family :D
my suspicions of him being a road racer are becoming less, but that still leaves the problem of how he became such a skinny, scabby little mess!

Turns out he's a year older than I expected (YO only ever told me a rough estimate "Oh, I don't know, 10 or 11?" This was a couple of years ago now) His birthday is in 1999!
I'm so pleased I finally asked about it :D yay!

It also made me want to change his show name to Golden Falcon, but I honestly think Bazinga is more 'Ned' haha :P

Yes, go on Nah, get in touch. I bet they would be delighted to receive such news! Sounds like a great adventure into Neds past is about to begin! With these things sometimes you find out things you would rather not have known but to give him a history will only deepen the bond between you. :)

Yay ^^ going to take woofy for a walk, then think of something to write :) I'll just give her very basic info to start with such as "I don't own him yet, but I plan to, he's going well etc etc" for the time being, then if/when she writes back, see if she would like to know more about his time since I've known him :)

Good idea. Don't forget to ask if they would mind giving you more info on him at the outset and how you came to find their details etc. So exciting!!! :):):)

Ok, so how does this sound?

"Dear Miss/Mrs ----
Having recently looked at my favourite horses’ passport, prior to purchasing him, I believe you are the original owner. He was born in 1999 and called Ned, out of ----------- and by -----------.

I was wondering if you could possibly give me any information on him, as his past is almost completely unknown.

I have been riding him for around 6 years now! I mostly hack him, but we’ve done some local shows and received two 2nd place rosettes for jumping and we hope to take part in some in-hand classes next year. Ned’s my best friend, I wouldn’t be without him now!
If you would like some more information on how he’s getting along, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Best Wishes,
----- -----"

(Note: ----- is replacing a name!)

That read very well! Polite and succinct. Nah, I wish you the very best with this and hope you get a reply!

I have always known the history of my horses and can only imagine the excitement. My friend once bought a pony with no history and then found out he featured in Kelly Marks book!!

Xx

as hes a standardbred i suggest you get in touch with SarahThomas on here who works for stagbi ,she might be able to get you details of breeder and racing history if ned has one. i really enjoyed getting news from new owners of horses ive owned in the past and im sure neds old owners will feel the same:)

TallyHoHoHo - Wow! That must have been exciting to see him in a Kelly Marks book :O haha!!
Thank you so much :D I really hope they can tell me something :)

Plum Duff - I've PM'd her :D I'm hoping she can tell me a little about his parents, and him too if I'm lucky :D

Nah, got your PM but only on my phone at the moment. Will start the digging in the week, haven't been able to find Ned's breeding on our website yet (although the dam has two other registered foals). Will reply tomorrow with some further questions for you and them take it from there.

Just a little teaser, OH tells me Ned's daddy was a great racehorse, top free for aller (the highest level they can race at) and loved the heavy going :) apparently there's a video on youtube of him racing, which you've probably seen!

Put a stamped addressed envelope in the letter and they are more likely to reply I reckon. Along with a phone number.

I once traced the breeder of an unregistered sheep dog who had had 8 homes when I got him at 8 months. I expected them to be totally disinterested but they weren't and they had pics of him as a pup as well which she sent me.

Ooh yay!
How exciting :D I can't wait!
I've seen the video, not very good quality, but still very cool!

FfionWinnie - Oh darn, that would have been a good idea! I've already posted it! Hopefully they'll still reply, but if not, at least I tried!
That's what I'm hoping for - a picture of baby Neddy :D
