I found the gypsy mare & foal - now what?! *pics*

I sold her to a friend of mine last year - I still see her regularly and she looks great even though she foaled earlier this year. I gave her owner advice on worming and feed and she never dropped weight this time around.

I do understand why you feel a connection to this mare, but I think unless you can afford to buy them, I would try to leave the owners to it. Leaving the ILPH to deal with this is the best course of action in my opinion.

ILPH are really good about this sort of thing.

They were able to help some horses near us that were in a similar condition and owner by a dealer in another County!

One of the prerequisites of the new animal welfare law is that they must have access to drinking water, so hard as it may be, if there is no water for them, don't give them any before the ILPH guy comes round. That in itself should give him some leverage. Sadly being wormy/skinny is not enough to take them away, they'd need to be emaciated. I know the rules haqve changed for the better, but they still don't go far enough, IMO.
I have been in the situation of neglect going on in the field next to my house in Scotland, but because she gave the horse a leaf of hay at night, and he had access to water, the ILPH couldn't do a thing. He had an open festering sore on his neck from where he's been tubed, it was disgusting, but that still wasn't enough to remove him. He was a 16.3 TB by Sunyboy, 6yo, and the 8itch wouldn't sell him to me. She had him put down when I was away.
This is just to say be careful you don't get their backs up too much, or you might lose track of them altogether.........
Good luck tho', it's great that you are trying to do something. And the ILPH will do everything in their power to help.

tbh i would just steal them
the owner clearly doesnt appreicate (sp) them.
and they are beautiful horses.

Just watch out for the gypsie bit though
i got chased by them with knives!!

good luck!! x
