For the last few months we've been searching for horse number two for me (Sidney is really my husbands) to absolutely no avail. If I see one more "safe as houses" horse that the owners won't get on because its a fruit loop I will scream.
This weekend I was hopeful - we went to see a mare who was up for sale due to a loss of job (I didn't even want a mare but now will look at anything to widen my search). She seemed ok, a bit unfit but ok, ok in the stable although not particularly loving. Then i saw her ridden. Good god she needed a rocket to get her going as the girl resorted to pony club style kicking to get her fired up. Why does "safe" seem to mean either it's not and is a loon or it won't go above a walk?!
Then finally she got her into canter.
I've never seen a hermit crab canter but now I don't have to to imagine it. I didn't thing it was anatomically possible for a horse to canter completely sideways but it appears I was wrong
I am so disheartened and fed up.
So if anyone knows of a horse 15.2+HH, safe, sane, suitable for a competant novice (I may be selling myself a little short but I need my confidence building a little) to do a bit of jumping, lot of hacking, schooling etc then please can you let me know?
Colour, sex and age wise I'll look at anything.........as long as it can canter in a straight line!
Sorry for the moan but am losing hope of finding anything for me

I can't remember who it was, but someone put a How Much type post on here the other day on behalf of their friend who was considering selling their safe cob...

You will find the right one though, don't get too disheartened. hat part of the country are you in?

It was MadHector.

He friend is selling the most stunning cob, I would have her myself if I had the room!

She is absolutely gorgeous and safe as houses.

PM MadHector if you are interested!

i'd go to a dealer... honestly! at least they've got a reputation to uphold. or, be prepared to sift through all the liars out there, and to travel miles to see horses who have aged and shrunk overnight, or worse... you have to keep a sense of humour!
i like horsequest, because there's enough room for people to write an essay about their horse, so you can get a real feel for it. also, a few pictures are allowed. get people to email you more pictures, and ask tons of questions by email... might help you weed some out!
good luck! sorry i don't know of anything suitable at the moment.

i'm looking for a horse too at the moment, and on horsequest i found a link to http://www.youngeventhorse.co.uk/index.html, near Notts... i have nothing to do with these people, but they sound as if they have a good set-up and care about their reputation. they have all-rounders too, by the looks of it.
also, on horsequest under Sport Horses, Adult, there's one headed One In A Million... might he suit? sounds lovely. i've been in the same position as the seller (the horse just isn't tough enough to event, but fine for other less demanding stuff) and she sounds as if the right home is very important. maybe worth a look? Good luck.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I'll look at those links. Some one has also suggested Judy Thurlsomething? In yorkshire. Sorry can't find the bit of paper i wrote it down on!
Wench - have pm'd you back.
Will also pm Madhector

Am all fired up again now i've read this but was so down yesterday. Sidney is my "baby" but he really is hubbys horse and I just want one thats all mine if that makes sense. Also hubby is suffering by not having a permant hacking buddy in me to go out with.
