Had a lovely hack out yesteday on my newly backed 4 year old, he was so good - first time with another horse, first time in the woods, perfect. Was looking forward to another nice ride this morning...

Got ready, got on and he started throwing his head around. I made him stand. YO was there and said "Is he OK Lucy?"... to which I replied "No, he feels funny, he's fidgeting" (not like him).

The next thing I know Phoenix is doing a serious bucking broncho and I landed on my back and cracked my head on the floor (Thank god I had a hat on!)

YO ran over and grabbed him, I got up - a little shaky - checked his saddle and got back on. YO walked with me to the menage and walked around a bit and Phe started psyching himself up to do it again. I got off and YO checked his back, then lunged him for a while.

I then got back on and he felt fine, maybe a little on edge. Anyway, I just walked him round a couple of times and called it a day.

It was possibly a horsefly but I'd gone early purposefully to miss them, so not sure.....

Anyway, I'm ok, I've got a headache and I've somehow scraped my tummy - I think on the saddle when he was throwing me around, but I'm fine.

Will get his saddle and back checked obviously...

I think the shock has settled in now, and I'm feeling quite tearful

Oh hun thats pants!!

Most likely was a horsefly taking a chunk out of him or similar.

I know its only 12.15 but have a stiff drink to make you feel better!

((((())))) Hope you are OK. As you hit your head have you got someone around to keep an eye on you? If not get your self checked out at A&E. Take care I hope you are ok.

lol... you're the second person to tell me to have a stiff one... I only need to be told twice... so I will!!

OH is around to keep an eye on me, but I think it's fine, my back hit the ground the hardest and my head just followed through.

Same thing happened to me on my youngster once! Its really horrible and I can sympathise totally. Get yourself checked out in A&E but sounds as though you are in a bit of shock - I know when it happened to me I was ok at the time (8.30am) but by 2.30pm I was in floods of tears and shaking like a leaf!

Sending you hugs. Hope you are not too sore. Have to say I'm impressed with it being your first fall in 16years!!!! I have had 7 in 2 years!!

ajb123 - yeah, it was at the same time as yours and I'm just feeling awful now, was fine at the time... shock I suppose.

A1fie - lol... and from a stand still too!! The last time was when I went over a jump and my pony didn't pmsl

Thanks everyone, I'm sure I'll be ok and I hope he will. He hasn't got a bad bone in his body and is such a good boy, something was bothering him.

Poor you and 2nd those you need to get yourself checked or at least make sure someone keeps a close eye on you, if you start feeling confused, dizzy, sick at all then definatly a@E .

Unfrotunatly you now need a new riding hat as well.

My youngster did much the same thing when I got on him one day too quickly luckily for me though I was in the sand arena so hurt nothing but my pride.

Since I have had a youngster I have fallen of so many times as unfortunatly they are unpredictable, however well worth it.

Hope you are feeling better soon and be careful!

Ouch! I bet you will feel it tomorow morning. The last time I fell off I was bronced off onto my back on a road and I had whiplash and generally felt Id been hit by a truck. I feel for you

It is so easy to lose your confidence when things like this happen especially when you can't see why on earth they suddenly decide to behave in an odd way. Hope you are feeling ok by now and not too shaken up, and that next time you get on he will be as good as gold.

Oh poor you, hope you are ok. Maybe you should avoid the stiff drink for a while til you are sure there are no adverse affects from banging your head. x

Awww *hugs* I really feel for you. I had my first fall since my early teenage years (I'm 32 now) about a month ago - horse stopped at a fence and I sailed over it. I felt very tearful and shocked for a while. I hope you have no lasting worries and he's a good boy next time (I'm sure he will be). He is such a stunning boy; I remember seeing pics of him when you first joined on here and he looks great in your sig.

hope u r ok, similar thing happened to me. although ive been dumped twice in one week with current horse! so uve done well to last 16 years

Thanks everyone, I'm sure we'll be fine, though I don't think I will sleep too well tonight for worrying... doh!!! Blooming horses!
