I got into UEA in norwich yo do nursing, it's my top choice so I'm really happy!

I just need to find somewhere to keep Matty on grass livery or a paddock to rent. So do any if you know anywhere that does grass livery close to UEA or The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. I've emailed high ash farm and I'm happy to pay to hold the place if they already have a place. I've Google so many different things, but I'm sure there's the small yards that aren't on Google too.

yay well done - am in the same situation as just got into medicine at nottingham so am trying to find grass livery for Roo down there but am coming up agaisnt the same barrier of all the yards online are big posh things that only do part/full! My plan is to go down for a few days end of july to have a dig around.

Good luck and enjoy

Congratulations, its good you are planning what to do with your horse as nursing is a tough course and will take up most of your time. Good luck :)

Thank you :) mum's taking me livery yard viewing soon. I know some waiting lists are huge! I think the best thing to do is go to the local tack shops and ask in there :)

Congrats on nottingham mynutmeg!

Will ask my friend Kate if there is any space on her yard it's not grass livery but they do have feild shelters in their individual paddocks, if not will see if she knows any other in the area she's literally about 1/2 mile outside of town and has hacking direct into woods etc

Amy I have a place for you that I can't recommend enough owned by a friend and instructor the guy is fantastic with horses and has an awful lot of experience will PM you his number soon as I get home

Try Blackwater Farm Great Witchingham, or Weston Park EC, or Whiterails Farm at Great Melton

When I'm yard hunting for friends I just get on Google Maps and look for all the arenas then drive round! It probably wouldn't bring up everything as obviously not every yard has an arena but it might be a good start.

If the uni have a riding club, contact them and ask for recommendations, too. When I went to uni I didn't have a clue where anywhere was, and in hindsight asking horsey people studying at the same uni would have given me some leads as to what's in a reasonable student-commutable area.

Just be aware that Norwich takes forever to get across. There are plenty of livery yards around the city. Are you driving, or is it determined by public transport/cycling? There is very much opposite ends in terms of what is on offer - big competition yards like Blackwater (will be a good 30-45 mins from UEA). On the plus side, a fair few of the lecturers are horsey there. The UEA also has a very active riding club that should be able to help if you contact them http://www.ueaequestrian.co.uk/

Well done Amy and mynutmeg on getting in. Don't want to put a damper on things, but are you sure you want to take your horses to uni? I was very close to taking my boy but didn't in the end and it's the best thing I did. He had a great time with a teenager, I could come home an ride him whenever I wanted and, most importantly I got to live the student life to the full. It was the only time in my life, except for the odd week's holiday, since the age of 12 that I never had to worry about getting up early to see to the horse, and making sure I haven't drunk too much to drive up to the farm at 6.30am etc. If there's any time you want to have no responsibility to anyone but yourself it's when you're a student! Don't get me wrong, I missed him like mad, but I'm glad I just got to be a student.

Would you be bringing them home every holidays? You also need to think about how they'd settle in at both places if they're moving a lot.

I'm sure you've gone through all this before making this decision, but just playing devil's advocate to be sure:cool:

I didn't end up taking mine. Kind of wish I had though. I stayed there once I started so I wouldn't have had to do the shuttling back and forth but I know people that did and it looked a pain tbh.

Annagain... This is my second degree, already done the uni life thing once haha, not sure my liver can handle it a second time!

Congrats for getting the place!
imo blackwater and weston would be a massive trek while you're fitting in uni life, probably around 30 mins away from Norwich…. I'm pretty sure neither offer grass livery!

edited as i saw you're already a student!

Absolutly - aside from no-one else would want her as she's a bit broken at the moment and just coming back into work - she's my de-stress completely. I'm 30 and this is my second time at uni as am doing graduate entry so haev done the student life thing and am not fussed about going out at night etc. She'll be on grass so no issue about getting up early to go chuck her out plus am not going to be moving home for the hollidays as because it's an accelerated course I have reduced holidays compared to normal uni so will just move permenantly, which also negates the unsettling for Roo.
I think the biggest issue I'll have is finding accomodation where my collie dog can come :p

You must be very excited to get on the course Norwich sounds lovely. I have to say from experience that a nursing degree is completely different to other degrees not as much free time and you work a full week when on placement unlike other degrees where you go in for a few lectures in the week. I did mine as a mature student too but my horse wouldn't live out and i couldn't afford full livery so he had a lovely new family who could spend time with him. When I completed my degree and a years nursing experience I was lucky enough to bring him home.

Good luck

My third year I juggled 2 horses, uni and a full time job. I'm more than prepared for the hours involved, as is my pony. I also only get 7 weeks holiday and have family nearby, so we'll both be staying there. It's been a long decision making process for both my mum and I that included an awful lot of budget planning etc. I also have a bengal kitten, but she won't be able to come with me until second year, where I'll live off campus, so she's staying with my mum :) (unless you know anyone in Norwich who would adopt a Bengal kitten for three years so I could see her while I was there :P )
