Introduced my new Loan Horse who has been with me since Tuesday.

Lewie, 11 year old, 17hh, TB (Ex racer) He will be with me until the end of the summer so is only on short term loan.

No ridden piccy's as our lesson was canceled on Friday but hopefully I will get some next week.

He is a bit underweight and is lacking top line but I am sure that will come with time.

He is also quite head shy (the first day I had to take the bridle apart to get it on

) but again I think that will improve over time as he begins to trust me. He is already slightly better as I have been working on it every day with the help of a Little person holding lots of treats

Have hacked him out 3 times so far, not had any major issues apart from him being a bit keen during one particular canter

Hopefully all will be well and I will get to have some fun with him whilst he's with me!

Oh tried not to reply to this, one he looks like a lovely boy but did they see you coming. I mean he is a hatrack poor boy you will provide TLC and good food over the summer and then he goes back which one has MUG written on their forehead Sorry

They're doing me a favour as I haven't got a horse to ride at the moment, I wouldn't not feed him up just because he is with me for a short while.

We have plenty of good grass and a barn full of hay. He gets one feed a day (which he would get regardless of his weight as they are all fed out in the field together) so he isn't exactly going to break the bank.

Any horse that I borrow, Ride, or loan I would try and improve weather it is fat or thin shy or naughty, It's just how I am.

OK........I might be missing something here but.....and bare with me....you have been givien a total toastrack on a short term, for the summer only loan...and bearing in mind its what, the second week in August now........

what is your real name? Jesus?.....

you have been taken for a serious ride here....send the bloody thing back and dont waste your time or money...

I can have him for as long as I want, but I only need a horse until the end of the summer which is when (hopefully) my own horse will be back in work so I will choose to send him back.

He was not forced on to me in the slightest and I am not paying out any more for him then I would if he was a fat cob, he is being fed a basic mix with a basic chaff that we buy in bulk anyway for the other horses at the yard and is living out in a 6 acre field that had plenty of grass so I am not really sure why it is a problem?

Although he is thin he has good conformation, once he gets some weight on and builds up his hindquarters which look very weak now he will be fab. Hopefully you can have lots of fun with him before he goes.

Didn't you take another one on loan the other week too? (Sorry if I'm thinking of someone else!) You must be very busy with all these horses to look after!

I saw the pictures yesterday and managed to bite my tongue, the problem is... a horse that thin should be on a few feeds aday and not a basic mix... he should be on a conditioning feed to help get his weight back up to normal!! He is VERY underweight not slightly... You will be amazed how quickly he will improve condition wise with a few good square meals of conditioning cubes, chaff and oil, a supplement would also help, Pink Powders is very reasonable and works really well with my TB mare!! I also feel that until he improves condition wise he shouldn't be working as much as he is...
