I Guess They Have A Point..

Just because x ( and you can insert anything for x ) cost y to produce does not mean that y + will be the sale price the market sets the price and at the minute while I think for nice horses in work the market is ok for youngsters it's depressed and I seriously doult they will break even on these very nice looking yearlings .

I think they're advertising on the wrong website. Preloved is a bargain hunters website. Nobody there will care what the horses blood lines are or whether its been properly cared for. It's more along the lines of: is it broken in, bomb proof and less than 2k, on that site. Not to mention that nobody will see that ad unless randomly browsing, because nobody types that title into the search box. My question is: how much does the advertiser expect to pay for advertising on a website used by the kind of buyers they are aiming their horses at?

There is a saying " fools breed horses for wise men to buy".

If I bred them I wouldn't sell at a loss so I would break them then sell them. If you cannot afford to do that the I am afraid you can only expect to get market value. It matters not what your COP is if the market is on its face.

That said if you counted your time and everything else involved in breaking and schooling a horse to sell then you'd make a loss too I expect!

Think there costing of injections and registering is somewhat out as well, and to be honest, what the blazes did they expect to get for them? You rarely make money from breeding horses, even when times are good, and breeding serious quality. The ad is not written well, no breeding of horse etc, just a rant on cost. To me it reads as if written by one of those people you can't help, the crunch was in full swing when they bred these horses.

The one thing my dad always drummed into me as a kid was no matter what I think something is worth, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Honestly this applies to horses too! :p ;)

Its not like the recession has only just hit - they planned these foals and are how having a whine about the lack of "quality" buyers.

Perhaps they will think twice next time?

I came across the original advert when I was looking for my new youngster but decided against contacting as I knew I could get something of a similar quality for less, especially in this market!
