I have finally found a brilliant spot for training Otto... my horse's field 
The horses are used to dogs so leave us alone and Otto ignores them and concentrates on me
So we have been practising the stop whistle today, he was so good, the video only shows him doing it in close but he was doing it out much further and from speedy romping to stopping dead

(Apologies for the strange video, I apparently am unable to use my phone correctly!)
We still haven't quite reached the state where I can just blow the whistle, I'm having to get his attention first hence me saying his name lots! Also I have to keep his attention so we do it a few times in quick succesion, then he has a run and then we do it a bit more. He is getting better with paying attention to me, who knows, he might get to work off the lead this year... fat chance!!!
