I hate horse-hunting! What do you think of these?

What do you think of these? My only concern is that having had 17hh+ horses for so long, I'll look stupid on something 16hh - I'm 5'8 Basically, I'd like:

£5000 max
5-8 years
Sensible but I am experienced so can deal with a bit of green/quirky
16hh min, 16.3hh max but I am 5'8 so concerned I'll look silly on something small/slight.
Looking to do a bit of everything - jumping up to 1.10m
No bonkers irish off the boat or 'sensitive' WB types as I have just found out I no longer bounce very well!!!!

These are my faves so far...

And for some reason, this little lady has really caught my eye!

I love the cob - would snap her up for myself if I could afford another!! :D

The high head carriage puts me off Fresian horses!

Based on your requirements, particularly jumping up to 1.10m - none of the above.
If I had to pick one it would be chestnut mare although I think you may have to improve your bounceability during the early stages.

Size wise you should be fine on a 16hh. I'm 5'10" and look ok on a 16hh

The last one seems really sweet and you could just get on and have fun with her straight away.

The friesians always look special but I understand they can be quite a handful, the one my friend had certainly caused much heartache and tears of frustration!

The spanish lady looks nice as well, but is more of a project.

Hmm, I think you might have said what I am concerned about. I used to jump at 1.10, don't think I would ever go bigger. Not even sure I would go to that height again as I'd like to do some more dressage, but I'd like something that could have a go. I do bounce ok but I was slammed into the floor on Friday by my nuts youngster and realized that actually, I have just had enough of this and want something less feisty and I don't actually need a well-bred jumping machine to potter at 90cm-110cm. A case of waking up and smelling the coffee I think...

Ooh, thats interesting about Freisians - I was told that they were quite placid!!! Perhaps not a good option then... Quite happy for a project but a sane project. Does that make sense?!!

Last one is barefoot. Just pointing that out! I would also say while like the look of the fresians, none if you are focusing on jumping the sort of height you are thinking of.

In the first message I would avoid any that are listed as privatre seller when they are clearly a dealer.

How about the mare here ; http://www.stubleyhollowfarm.com/

BTW at your height anything over 15hh with some depth through the girth should be fine. If you prefer larger that is fine but don't dismiss the right horse for a couple of inches.

Sure they have some ability but I would be looking more at those breeds if I wanted to compete in pure dressage ( never hurts to be on a flashy black horse!) but not my first choice if I really wanted to go BS. I think Fresians and Iberians are beautiful but would not look at them for eventing, which is my "thing". Caveat by saying I know of some top event horses which were a Andalusian x TB. I have always hankered after an Iberian but need to get eventing out of my system first!

I cannot disagree with you at all! I'm not out to win Hickstead - after 4 horrible years with horses, I just want to have fun doing all sorts of things. And as stupid, pathetic and shallow as it sounds, I kinda want a Iberian/Freisian-y type as I have always had 'proper' sports horses. But I do love that little cob mare....

If you've had a pooh time over the last 4 years with sports horses, then I would DEF have a look at that cob. Iit sounds as though you want to just get on a have fun and she seems to fit the bill more than the others. Sometimes a change of "type" is just what you need!

If you are wanting something a bit quieter and try a bit of dressage I'd go and view the chesnut cob mare, looks like fun but would probably be a good fun allrounder but not particually excell in an area :)

Do you know what, I really like the bay cob mare! Imagine what she would look like fully clipped out legs and everything with a pulled mane... I think she would look quite smart and I like the front on her. Also Rytans son looked quite similar and he wasn't bad at jumping was he?!
My friend has an irish cob, 16.1 who also has a big front and yes while he isnt as scopey as my TB, he certainly has a pop, and can easily do a full up 1m/1m05 course with single fences up to 1m10 and he is a lot less sharp than my TB!!

Th friesens unless you want to concentrate on dressage I would say No. A different friend had a friesen and actually he was beautiful and VERY safe but also VERY clumsy!! They are driving horses really (that is what they were initally bred for) and while some may jump I wouldn't have wanted to jump the fresien I knew, it was very heavy on its feet! I have seen some beautiful ones doing dressage though, I do think they are stunning to look at.

The chestnut bleugh. I think that looks a much work as any other sports horse tbh although i'm sure it could be nice, would it be that much different from your current horse?!

Yes I like the cobby! You're instinct could be right :).

I think either the second Fresian or the cob mare. Personally I'd have the cob mare because I have a friend with a Fresian who, although he's utterly stunning and quite well mannered most of the time, does have a habit of chucking in a tremendous buck and bolting with her or anyone else on him! Contrary to popular opinion as well some cobs really can jump. One at my yard would easily clear 1.20+ and he was only 15.2. Although you'd need to check out with the current owners if this little lady is inclined to jump. I have a cob who absolutely loves jumping, but his limit is about 3ft. Since I don't like jumping at all it's never been a problem, he does a stunning dressage test, as most cobs can, given their usually excellent sense of rhythm.

Good luck looking, but you might want to rethink the jumping bit if you like those particular horses! :)

You'll do no harm going to look at the cob. And if you do decide you like her and buy her, and it turns out she doesn't have the scope you want- she's very sellable!

Shame, we've got the perfect riding club type schoolmistress mare for half the budget, but she's 15.2/3 and 10 years old....so both too small and too old! :(

I love the freisans but i would say they are more suited to pure dressage from both their descriptions!

I think the cob looks more like an allrounder (obviously no major competition horse)and i'm drawn to her for some reason! She works in a lovely outline for a heavier horse too.I think she's a bargain price too!

The advert for the Andalusian is ringing alarm bells for me. The photos are awful and she doesn't even look particularly Iberian. For starters chestnut Andalusians are very rare. However, if she is a nice horse that isn't really an issue and of course my instinct may be completely wrong here.
I like the second friesian and the allrounder. My only concern is that jumping 1.10 may be a bit much for both.
