I've just spent 1hr trying to get landladys horse (N) in.
I got the stables ready and ofcourse Merryn came over as soon as I called.
I called and called but N did not move. I got a bucket of nuts and shook it, still N did not move. So I walked across the field got over to him rattled the bucket and he started following me. We got halfway across the field and he stoped and refused to go any further. I went back to the stables and grabbed my lungeline. I went to catch N using the lungeline and he spun round. It was clear he wasn't going to let me catch him so I tried hurding him in. Nope that wasn't going to work and he just ran to the far side of the field again
Sod it, I've just left him out. I'm now soaked through to my bones

I hate horses they are so thick. Merryn is now in his stable out of the wind and rain, munching on hay and the horse is still out in the field looking misrable.

My horse used to be a right sod to catch - he used to let me get so close to him, then he would spin and gallop off. Eventually it got to the stage where I had to bring a bucket in with me (which I was loathe to do, but had no choice unfortunately) - even then he became wise to it very quickly. I used to have maybe 1 or 2 treats in the bucket and I would have to hide the headcollar in the bucket, so that as soon as he stuck his nose in, headcollar would go on. It was a total nightmare! Thank goodness he eventually wised up and now comes when I call him.

Anyway point of my post is I totally empathise with horrible to catch horses and I hope he decides to cooperate ASAP!

Thanks guys.

He normaly just comes in when you call. I don't need to catch him or Merryn. Just leave stable doors open, open field gate and they let themselfes in. Will go back out in a min and see if he's changed his mind. Normaly he can't stand being more than 2ft away from Merryn. I can't believe he'd rather be out in this!!!
