On Sunday I fell off my horse while having a jumping lesson. Ended up fracturing one of my vertebrae! Just got out of hospital today but am feeling depressed. I cant sit for 4 weeks, can only stand or lie down. Have to wear a back brace for 4 weeks. No sitting means no work and no work means no sickpay!!

My good ol mum flew down from scotland to be my nurse and groom. Im very lucky to have a friend who has just started riding Tia on a thurs who has said she will ride her 4 days a week instead.

Has anyone had to have bedrest for this long? How do you cope? I'm going to be so bored.

i simpathise whole heartedly. I've fractured my arm schooling on sat morning. What i find frustrating is that we only jupmed a 30cm fence when the previous time we jupmed he's been jumping 110cm with no problem.
i'll be off for between 3 and 10 weeks. waiting for a scan next week

I've been stuck at home for the last 4 weeks too, I've mainly been watching loads of dvd's and coming on here and facebook.
I had surgery on my right foot and left knee so been hobbling about on crutches and in a wheelchair the whole time.

I can totally sympathise, at least your mum is there to help you. And you should get SSP from work it's only £79 a week but better than nothing. Just make sure you send them your sicknotes.

On no your poor thing. I broke my ribs in a rather spectacular fall on Saturday but at least i can still get about!

Lots of tea and chocolate.......oh and lots of girlie dvd's

Hope you feel better soon.

xx

I'm going to go to the yard everyday not that my mum needs supervising but I have nothing better to do so might have to groom my horse much more than i usually do. Just cant bend over to pick out feet or carry anything heavy. Might even lunge her once a week after a couple weeks of rest. My mare is good to lunge and is all voice command so I just need to walk in circles which i'm allowed to do.

I've asked my boss if I can do any work from home and left it with them to decide so fingers crossed I wont have to survive on SSP!

I have been given so much chocolate I fear I will turn into a sofa blob if I lie here and munch them all haha!

Never complained about chocolate before but over the last year since I got my horse I lost over a stone and half of weight. But i'm sure I wont put it all back on in 4 weeks lol.

poor you, heres to a speedy recovery.

If you can get in the mind frame morning tele is ok, as long as you dont go to the depths of Jeremy Kyle

But now i'm out i'll go to the yard and get back to watch This Morning hehe.

You are entited to sick pay if you have been in your job a while, I think, but am a bit out of date, that it is six months.

Oh no - get well soon! My house mate fell off her bed putting clothes away and broke her back (so simple we were shocked) so I was running around visiting in hospital and nursing her then I was suddenly in an ambulance after bronco horse fall - am now on week 8 of broken pelvis - it gets easier after a few weeks you just settle in to it. My friend has been resting lots in bed and had her first check up and all going well so maybe lie down good bit as tempting as it is to be up and about! Mummies are great, mine came down too and then brought me home so now its 2 hr drive to visit horse boo. Chin up and best wishes.
