I hate showjumping! Got shouted at today..

I went to Solihull today for the disco and 1.05m. I was warming up, and walked her on the opposite rein to everyone else for a bit to loosen her up (this IS aloud at this venue as I know some venues aren't, and yes I was sticking to the left to left rule). So I was walking one way, everyone else was riding the other (heaven knows why showjumpers don't ride their horses on both reins and then wonder why their horses stop at the first jump cos it is off the opposite rein to the one they where warming up on!

). I was parrallel to one of the warm up fences (but I wasn't close to it, I was on the track albeit slightly in as I was on the other rein), when a "pro" shouts "verticle!" (she didn't give much notice!). So I trot on to get out of the way, expecting her to go around me- I had no other choice but to go forward or stand still and cause a collision behind me! Anyway so I expected her to take the obvious line to the fence and go around me, but she tries to cut infront of me (which would of made her jump it at a rediclous angle anyway!!!), and boom, she rides straight into me *owww*.

She then shouts, VERY loudly so the whole collecting ring can hear, "ARE YOU DEAF?!?! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?!?! OR ARE YOU FOREIGN?! YOU MUST BE FOREIGN YOU STUPID LITTLE GIRL! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE ANYWAY?!?!" She didn't clarify what she meant by the last statement, but I assume she thought I wasn't good enough to be there

I said sorry over and over, and then burst into tears.
We all make mistakes, I tried hard to get out of her way I didn't do it on purpose, I know I was the one in the wrong but I apologised

I don't understand why she had to shout, someone cut me up when I was trying to jump (I was lined up to jump the warm up fence and someone did a 20m circle infront of me so I had to turn away) and she said sorry and I huffed abit but said, "don't worry about it"- kept the peace, turned a circle and came back to the jump- no harm done.


Ugh I am sorry for the rant I am just so down about it, it ruined my day

On a brighter note..I won £12 today in the disco, just had one down in the 1.05

Glad you won some money, as for the nasty ***, tell her to stuff off, you paid your money just the same as her!.Dont let this get to you, indoor collecting rings are hell anyway.

PS Vertical is the same word here in France, so why did she think you were foreign?, just shows how much she knows!
 
Oh you poor thing that is really horrible, some people are just so thoughtless and rude. I did a showing class back in March and had a nasty fall whilst warming up, got back on and warmed up slowly out of everyones way and some woman shouted 'if you are going to ride like that in the class you'd better keep out of my way'!! People just don't understand the damage comments can cause.

I did try and ignore her but everytime she rode past me I tensed up

and then I saw her watching me jump my round and she actually shook her head when I came out the ring with a clear round!

I understand that I got in her way (albeit totally by accident, I was trying to get out of her way, it just didn't work!), and she had a right to be annoyed, but when she yelled at me and humiliated me infront of everyone was horrible

She wasn't in the final line up, but I didn't see her round so I don't know what happened. She got through to the jump off but didn't see her go.

i would have pulled her off her horse and punched her lights out,not very helpful but there you go.was she shaking her head because you beat her sorry arse? seriously just ignore these types ,they gob off at you youngsters because they think they can get away with it. My then 14 yr old had an incident at towerlands once when some silly cow riding on the opposite rein to everyone else nearly colided with her even though ash had pulled off the track so they would be left to left,the dope also pulled of the track the wrong side and then glared at ash and said left to left when it it was her who was wrong. she wasn't quite so up herself after i said my piece to her!
 
You should have reported her to the judges. That behaviour is not acceptable. Everybody rides into everybody in the collecting ring - it is just what happens. You try to stay out of peoples way but it isn't always possible.

Your mum should have stood up for you as well.
 
Dont worry about it, and well done you for doing so well in your classes, lets hope she saw your rounds and was secretly seething and eating her words!

Im only just surviving BN tracks at the moment, and still very new to the BSJA scene with professionals competing. Generally the people ive come across are very nice but you will always get the riders who think that because they have bought a lorry full of superstars, and i just have my little mare in her trailer, that they are somehow better than you and have some sort of priority in the warm up area. Ive even been a moving filler on a couple of occasions, this one time i was helping a stranger who was on her own putting some jumps up in the warm up; was just about to alter the jump, checked it was clear when, at the last minute, this guy turns in sharply and shouts 'UPRIGHT' literally as i had the pole in my hand, had to dive out the way so i didnt end up being jumped myself

My mum didn't witness it, she was watching someone jump in the ring, and she heard the woman shouting so came out but didn't know she was shouting at me untill she saw me upset, and the woman had a big scary looking man helping her and my mum is only small and was on her own so I don't blame her for not saying anything!

Thanks everyone, I am glad I wasn't overreacting by letting it upset me. I always seem to be the youngest at senior shows and when you're surrounded by pros on their stallions it is intimidating at the best of times!
 
If I ever make it back BSJA and Summerhouse etc, you can hang out with me - although I am a older than you

Last time I went indoor jumping I took a youngster to Gracelands to do some low level unaffiliated stuff, really more of a school round the course instead of actually being there to compete. There was a family down from Brum with a very fat father who got really abusive towards me when his precious 12 year old brat cut me up in the warm up area. I was having to dode the spoilt little cow on her push button pony every time I went round a corner as she was firing it over the practise jump so much. He actually threated to do me in if I rode near his daughter again! That was 18 months ago & I will admit, I haven't been indoor showjumping since as that really upset me. I wasn't doing anything wrong, I was just trying to settle a rather green horse on the outside track, it was his little brat that belting around on her pony that was upsetting poor Rupert!

I know I should of brushed it off/reported it but it really upset me, and I didn't think to report it as I was one of the next to go in the ring so I had to push it to the back of my mind so I could concentrate, and when I came out I was too happy with my DC to bring it back up again.

I was just talking to the parents about it over dinner which is why I am now mulling it over and over in my mind.

I do think I will feel more nervous in practice rings now, but at least that will make me more aware and hopefully I wont be in that situation again!

I worked for a pro who would NEVER have spoken to anyone like that - and she is quite well known for being a miserable so and so!

I would be very tempted to name and shame! - it does make you wonder how "pro" some people are when they feel the need to show themselves up like this.

Dont worry - you said sorry and then did better than her! That probably wound her up more but tbh they cant be that pro if they are more worried about shaking heads at you than concentrating on their horses.

Really quite petty on her half.
 
Don't let her get to you, she's just a cow............. there are always people that think they own the collecting ring, and when I was younger I used to be fazed by them, but not once I realised they're just bullies.
Put it out of your mind, any decent competent rider would not have behaved like that.

some people are foul, i was called a procotious little prick and told to piss off by a lady for no reason once at berrington BE.
 
I've had this done to me before.. it was totally my fault (well my horses!) He landed and bronked sideways right into the path of the parrell which a certain well known eventer from Gloucester was approaching

she shouted at me and I appologised then her mother shouted at me for not appologising!

I got full on evils, but horses are unpredictable and I hardly did it on purpose! Was so so horrible.

Just try and forget about it, and I'm a showjumper and warm up on both reigns as did everyone where I competed!
 
How rude and obnoxious. So much for setting an example to younger riders!
All credit to you for still keeping yourself together enough to go in and produce a clear round.
I know its hard but try not to be intimidated by people like this as that is what allows them to behave in such an unacceptable way - smile sweetly and thank them for being so tolerant and understanding then go about your business without a second thought. Be the better person and hold your head high! Well done on your placing too - bet that annoyed her no end!
 
What's that b*llsh*t about being "foreign" all about? Even if you WERE foreign, where does she get off talking to anybody like that? Please don't let one rude nasty person discourage you! It sounds like you did everything you could to stay out of her way, and even if it turned out to be the wrong thing, everybody makes mistakes, and there's no point in flipping out about it.
