I have 3 ugly ponies....

To hell with what other people think, i'v been put down a few times at shows - and i dont honestly give a ******* because i love my horse to bits reguardless of what he looks like, i love him for his kindness and personality more than anything and i just love looking after him..Cant believe you are saying this about your horses

I am useless at everything and am always last however hard I try, so gonna give up horses, but can't sell them, so will put them in the freeads, free to good home or something like that - no one wants ugly ponies, they want winners- one is unbroken, one is useless, and one is rideable....

I'll pick them all up at 4pm tomo if that's ok :D

ETA Oh no :( don't say you're useless! I'm sure that is not true at all. Perhaps you're entering the wrong classes maybe? Show us some photos so we can maybe help? :)

Hun i am sure you are not useless at everything, if you have given these ponies a good home up till now then you are certainly not useless! dont give them away free, you have no idea were they may end up.. Ponies can give you so much joy even just looking after them, are you feeling really down because of something? feel free to pm me..x

Oh hun, I'm sorry I thought you were messing around earlier :( You sound very down about it. Don't give up on the dressage as all experience is a good thing. Please don't call yourself a failure! Evrybody is great at something, we just need to find out what that is. Have you tried starting at the local shows with like a 'tack and turnout class ? To build up your confidence?

You need to try and think more positively, but I appreciate this is hard when you feel down. Please PM me if you need to talk anything through and we are always here to listen. Hugs x

"Took my little mare out showing for the first time in 2 years - just did the Inhand cobs, came 3rd in excellent company in big classes...(bit disappointed as last time she was champ!! but hey - ho can't win all the time!!)"

Found in one of your other threads... seems to be evidence that you do not always come last... ;D
hope you cheer up x

do you know what........I have 3 beautiful county standard show ponies that we had great plans for, 1 of them was shown the year before last (and took the class), the other 2 haven't been out at all since we got them because of our circumstances changing. You have what you have, I am sure that your ponies are not ugly and if it makes you feel like this then showing is not for you, is it really woth feeling so miserable. There can only ever be one winner so the rest of the class feel disappointed but I am sure they do not go home resenting their ponies. If you want to show seriously then yes, sell them and buy a show pony otherwise find things to do with them that you enjoy and that makes you feel proud to own them, or ask someone who shows in the type of class you want to do for advice.

Have a hunt about in the schedules, we found a few classes, with titles like 'style and performance' '..to be judge on rider NOT pony'. My daughter managed to do quite well in these last year when she rode a secA which was very pretty one side but the other side had a blue eye and pink skin so looked a total mis-match, and never got anywhere in 'proper' showing classes other than 1 judge who liked her conformation despite the eye thing. She also picked up a trophy for 'most stylish round' with the same pony - and this was despite a dirty stop at a jump for no reason - 2nd time over the jump in that class, in the timed bit.

Ah see! You have had some success, more than I have had at showing ;) We all have bad days, and sounds as though something else is troubling you, but I won't hassle you what about, just know you can PM anytime.
Take care x

tried tack and turnout - was beaten by scruffy ponies with plaits falling out and ones with incorrect tack - I looked a total arse in there, and felt it too, I have never been any good at any thing, and probably never will - some of us are just like that - I will never be happy or sucessful, and I feel worse and worse about it - and please don';t say "counselling" - patronisting idiots, is what they are. (sorry to any councellers"!) People just sit and laugh at me, "all the gear no idea" I can't ride for toffee and am now **** at inhand too, it's just soooooo embarrassing -

good idea - but I can't canter - problem there!!

But you came third in a large class! thats good at something! I have never come third in showing, and believe me I used to try! :)

Counselling is actually very helpful and if you find the right one they're not at all patronising. But wasn't going to suggest it.:)

Don't get yourself down! To absolute hell with what everyone thinks!
I'm sure you have 3 very lovely horses (ps, some people would kill to be in your position...) and just because of what people think in the showring, don't you think you're taking the best ponies home at the end of the day???? Because they're yours??
It doesn't matter what my girl does at a show, she can knock poles, kick the judge, go vertical, bite another horse  and I am still proud of the horse I'm taking home at the end of the day because I know how far we've come - not to be judged by anyone else! They haven't seen the last 5 years...!!
Something must have really knocked your confidence but to give up now would be letting that win. You're obviously not useless at everything as you have three horses, one of which is rideable and another that is unbroken and not everybody can take on one of those.
Chin up, girl, take the knocks and work through it to improve!!

ETA, I have come third in showing - there was 3 in the class ;) and in-hand...psht...the minute I started to run, my mare exploded turned herself inside out and we got asked to leave the ring..! Everyone has bad show days - it just turns out my show day is a bad show day every time XD
It's fun, that's all, maybe if you can't see the fun in it anymore you should try another discipline?

ETA again...please don't blame it on your ponies I'm sure there is nothing wrong with them! Maybe they'd like another discipline too..Just read a past post of yours seems like you were pretty pleased with your mare then..

Ok so at least you know the pony is capable and not 'ugly' so all you need to do is have a few lessons from an instructor to show you how to handle her properly. :)

ETA Sounds as though lessons is what you need. Learn to canter and ride how you would like to. Don't give up.
