I have 3 ugly ponies....

but you must admit it's galling being at the bottom all the time......I don't want to win all the time - you can't but to be put below animals that are dirty or not turned out correctly, when I have worked my socks off to be clean and correct - what's the point??? and I'm always made to look a pratt latley - there's nothing I can do with them. My d looks like a shire - and nothing like a D - my coloured is just horrid - didn't get one comment on here about him - that says it all!! and my cob is just a munster...

Ok so at least you know the pony is capable and not 'ugly' so all you need to do is have a few lessons from an instructor to show you how to handle her properly. :)

ETA Sounds as though lessons is what you need. Learn to canter and ride how you would like to. Don't give up.

have tried to learn - i would love to be able to, but just cannot do it after 2 years of lessons - it's me as other people can canter him.......I am selling up.
there's really no point in ploughing on with something i am quite clearly useless at

All I know is you have a pony capable of coming third in a large class, you need to find the positive in that and not the negatives. You need lessons, that would help you a huge ammount. :)

Ok Just read above post, Sounds to me like you should try a new instructor before you give up. Worth a try :)

Then don't show.
I'm afraid that is the kind of thing I have come across every single time even up to championship level.
Its better to think of it as a day out for you and horses, then if you do well, its an added bonus!

I can understand why you are upset if the ones placed above you were not turned out properly, yes, galling to say the least. I would get yourself an instructor and build up your confidence, go to some shows (minus ponies) and have a look at the classes you want to do.

I agree with the lessons, should give you more confidence. (FWIW I'm not very good at cantering either, something to do with the fact I've not really ridden much lately) You could try another instructor? Or try a different discipline such as Le Trec or Endurance?

I'm sorry moses06 but if this is real and not a wind up, you really do need to get a grip. You bought the ponies (horses?) and you've enjoyed some success with them. If you don't like losing, don't compete. Why not approach some/one of the judges after the competition and respectfully ask for some feedback. Why not post on the Forum to ask what members think, and post a few pix of you + ponies in full competition gear. You could learn something and/or get some constructive tips. There's lots of members on here who judge and I'm sure would try to help. Why does your Section D look like a shire? Why is your coloured "horrid"? Why is your cob a "munster"? Don't you count it as "success" just to adore your own ponies/horses and build strong bonds with them? If you're no longer enjoying them, then by all means sell them but to announce to the world that you have 3 ugly ponies has an equally ugly resonance. I hope they find more appreciative homes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't show if its getting you down and learn to love your ponies for what they are. There are loads of folks out there who would give their eye teeth to have one ugly pony to love, let alone three!

^^^ what she said.

also if someone else took the horse in the class and did well why dont you have some lessons so you can get the horse going as well.
put some pics up

Agree with everything Box of Frogs has said. There are people out there who would give anything to have one pony let alone 3. Maybe your ponies will be better off with someone who actually loves them for what they are.

Sounds like an attention seeking troll to me.

hedgewich - how apt a name - you sound like a patronising peice of work........everyone is allowed to come on here and celebrate, moan, do whatever.....so leave me alone. The ponies will be given away, not that it's any of your business, a dealer is coming to pick them up - can't sell them in this climate, and want them gone qucik.

I posted pics of one of them - not one reply - says it all - not even a polite how cute - they are ugly that's the fact!!

so they can stand in the feild doing sod all and everyone else is out having fun.....I would just like to have some sucess at something rathert than be such a dumbass failure all the time, so thought I would try showing - how stupid of me.

What is this? An attention seeking post? I've found a thread with photos of you showing your mare. It only got one reply, but that's what happens sometimes with a fast forum when you post at 7.45 pm at the weekend.

Wel maybe no one replied because they didnt see it? I look at loads of posts and dont reply. What if you put a pic on here and said "how ugly do you think this pony is?" and got no replies, would you assume that it was beautiful? WHy do you assume that becasue you got no replies on an internet forum means that your horses are ugly?

I have 3 ponies, one of which people regularly tell me is ugly! I agree but I love him, I dont "do" anything with him if "doing" something with them means going to shows. I cant ride them cause they are all too small! Only 12hh ish. I play with them at home, take them walks in hand, started doing tricks with the ugly one. The mare very rarely does anything at all, she comes in for a groom and goes back out. I love her and would love to do more with her...but she doesnt. I am happy to own her and I love her but I cant do anythign with her. i cant even pick up her feet or put a headcollar on! People tell me that I "should" be able to do things with her but I cant, and I dont care. She is well treated and happy,.

Why dont you try doing different things with your ugly ponies? Long reining, le trec, horse agility, trick training or just being with them? OR maybe enter them into the guinness book of records as the "worlds ugliest ponies?"

I dont believe that your ponies are ugly but if hate them that much then give them away to someone who will love them for what they are, not everyone wants winners. Some people want loving ponies that they can enjoy and have fun with, other people like to own horses just for the sheer joy of being in the comapny of such beautiful animals.

LEt us see a pic? Someone on here might want an ugly pony.

I posted pics of one of them - not one reply - says it all - not even a polite how cute - they are ugly that's the fact!!

Was that the little coloured one - head shot? That had several very complimentary replies.....

As for showing - hard old game. Sometimes you do well, sometimes you'll be last - it's just how it goes. It also sounds to me as if you are showing fairly locally, so not being judged by experienced people - which obviously wont' help.

Good luck to your ponies, anyway. I'm sure the dealer will find them good homes.

so do these comments on your photos not count?!

tangoharvey- "what a cutie"
Divasmum- "his photo makes him look really cheeky!"
shysmum- "he's gorgeous"

fjordhorsefan- "wow she's lovely"

so the 1st 3 comments are for the "horrid coloured" that youi didnt get one comment for?! and it wasnt a v good pic?!!! Unless its a different horse?

And the last one for the welsh d that looks like a shire?

Very bizarre post but on reflection, your ponies may be better off with somebody who loves them for what they are.

I hope you find them lovely homes.

Sorry havn't read all the posts but got this far. My darling Lucy and i where always at the bottom of the line up in almost every showing class we did. We had a couple of sucesses but mainly Failers. We got elim at dressage because she used to stand at X and refuse to move if i tried to make her she just threatened to rear. When we went showjumping I used to freeze and she would refuse so we always got elim. She didn't have the best conformation and had loads of health problems. I lost her a month ago and it has broken my heart :( :( :( She was the best pony i will ever have and nothing will ever replace her. We went through so much together. Honest to god if i had the choice to have her back or have a prize winning horse who will win everytime we go out i would have her back every single time. She was my baby and we had an increadable bond.
((((((hugs)))))) to you. I hope you feel better about things soon. I know it's hard not to feel down I did sometimes with Lucy when we where having a very bad day and all my friends where out winning rosettes and prizes with there horses. But i would not change a single moment i spent with Lucy but I'd sell my soal to have her back. :(

moses06- I'm sorry to hear that you seem so down. Everyone goes through times where they think their not good enough in life.

I for one would give anything to be able to have my old boy as a field ornament. I have just spent over £2000 on vet bills for a 20yo just trying to get him comfortable enough to enjoy some extra retirement. Vets advice on Friday was that he shouldn't face another winter as the drugs aren't working anymore. I am gutted.

Think long and hard before you send them away to a dealer. You at least owe it to them to try and find them a good home. I don't think your a bad person at all and I always try and see both sides. You just seem like you've had enough at this point.

Take a big breath, take a few days and then have a rethink.

My yearling is going to need a companion soon so if you have a gelding I would be happy to give him a good home.

I have to agree with everything that box of frogs has said , sorry if this is harsh but
if you fill that you should give up because you either dont win or you come last in a show then just maybe the ponies are better of without you .
i hate it when people think more of competeing and trying to win then thinking more about their horses .
so what if your not placed etc it should be more about getting out and about and having fun with your ponies ,
grow up and start to enjoy your ponies or sell up to someone that is going to enjoy them
anyone can go some where in life and someone is always is good at something in life ,some others are better some are worse . till you put your heart and soul into your ponies you will not get anything in return
may i add i had a welsh mare , alovely little girl , not the most great confo , no good bloodlines just a welsh out of a plain old welsh mare ,
i took her to shows full knowing she would not be a champion , she got 3rd and 2nd but never did win . and i couldnt ride her because she was to small for me
it didnt bother me because being around her and being able to make the most of her was a previlage

I think everyone gets down sometimes.
I regularly lose at dressage with my dressage horse. We train with a very respected trainer, we work hard, we lose every time with tearjerking comments from the judge.
So mostly we hack ... and enjoy life ... and then we try dressage again and have a teary evening with vino and popcorn afterwards!

Going to be harsh here, apologies in advance. Look, you've got three ponies who depend on you. No-one else is going to fight their corner, only you. Grow a backbone, get some pride & defend them. To continually put them down is rubbish, they deserve to be loved & adored. Don't put your own inadequacies on them, you feel down not them, for whatever reasons. If you can't fill this vacancy then the least you can do is find them caring, loving, fun homes where they are appreciated.

I feel really sorry for your ponies. Bet they are just chuffed to bits to know how special they are to you.

You might be better taking up a sport like tennis - less hassle ditching a raquet if you dont win.

Your ponies will be better off somewhere they are appreciated.
