My grandma is buying me a pair of long riding boots for Christmas - very exciting, since I don't think I could really go to a show in my bright purple neoprene chaps.

Problem is, she isn't a rich grandma, so really they need to only cost about £20. I'm not after real leather or anything, just some PVC ones that I can splash about in the mud with, then dust them off and go riding, and I have found several for around the £15 mark... but they're all too narrow for my gigantic legs!

My calves are between 45-48 cm at their widest point (shoe size 8) and standard riding boots are usually around 40, so there's no way I could squeeze into them! All the boots I've found with wide/extra wide fittings tend to be the more expensive ones... so is it possible to get some fatty boots for £20, or should I just give in and resign myself to shelling out loads of money for them?

If you are bored with nothing to do, and feel like a bit of internet shopping, then any suggestions for cheap wide boots would come in very handy indeed.

Thanks.

With a limited budget it may be better for you to get a pair of leather gaiters to go over your jod boots. They look smart & you should be able to get a pair for around that amount of money. Failing that, you could buy some yourself, they may cost a little more than £20 & have some money from grandma to put towards them.

Try the Fun Rider Boot at Robinson's

It seems to come in a variety of options, which are difficult to decipher though! It might be worth giving them a call as their size guide (in annoying PDF) does not mention footware!

Also the Shires Blenheim Riding Boots come in a huge number of combinations:

As do the Cottage Craft Riding Boots, but they are more expenssive at 28.99

I agree get some gaiters - long rubber riding boots are hellish to ride in and once they are on the damn things don't want to come off .....(shudders at haunting childhood memories!!)

Robinsons do a long boot with a zip that look smart for £29 Parada Tall Boot I think - they might be a good compramise

What a lovely Grandma!

Agreed, spend a little extra and get some with a zip. The saxon equileather boots are pretty good and look smart. Don't know the price but my friend swears by them. I'm afraid I can't bare to wear long rubber boots as it all feels a bit bondage and wierd and don't like the smell, but I know someone that is happy to go to a BSJA show and has even jumped at Hickstead in her long rubber boots! lol!

Im the same and ended up spending 150 pounds on some leather mountain horse boots, which are comfy to ride in,but dreadful to walk in as i have short legs, and the boots are half way over my knees!
I nearly fell down the stairs in them yesterday morning!!!

Do these look smart enough for a local RC show?

They're only £19.99, and I can get them in black to match my boots - will they be okay for a little bit of showing, maybe jumping and stuff?
