Just a quick update from me as I haven't posted in a while. Cam is still off games, but is happy as far as I can tell, so hopefully in another couple of months I will start the very gradual process of bringing him back to work. I am beginning to feel less worried about him busting a few moves, after all he is a horse and I can't wrap him up in cotton wool much as it is tempting to do so.

Pretending he is a ninja . . .

Having a L'Oreal moment, because he's worth it . . .

We would definitely appreciate some good 'coming back to work' vibes over the next few months. The plan is to start with walking in hand, gradually building up from 5 minutes a day, then beginning to incorporate some long reining. In the summer he will go to our trainer's yard while I am away for 5 weeks or so and will move on to lots of straight line walking under saddle, on the road and hill work, with trot being introduced slowly as appropriate. I have waited so long for him to get better, I am not going to rush his return to work.

Anyway, so that I am not sitting around twiddling my thumbs, I have just taken on the part loan of one of our trainer's horses. She's a fun little mare, yet another shade of grey of course! Late teens, has done a fair bit of jumping in her life, but now sticks to flatwork due to a touch of arthritis. I feel I have my mojo back again, and hopefully we will be able to get out and about a bit this year.

A few photos (please excuse her winter woolies, and bear in mind we have only been together a few weeks, and I know I look down :( ) . . .

Love the winter woollies! She look sweet too. :)

Good luck with the rehab work, and I hope he doesn't try any of those ninja moves on the long rein as that could be, er, interesting! I noticed the hoof boots all round, what does he have a sick note for? :)

Thanks, she is very sweet and I am glad to have something to keep me ticking over before Cam comes back into work. :)

Touching wood as I write - it would be pretty unlike him to behave like this when worked. It's usually just for a minute or so after I turn him out, if at all, then he settles down to the serious business of eating. Small spilt in his DDFT (left hind), and compensating inflammation in navicular area in fronts. Graduated shoes were on for two cycles, then normal, and now unshod for the time being. At £216 a set, they needed some protecting! :)

I don't follow it, and have never looked at it before. Something is telling me it was most deffo on another horse forum!

Maybe you posted the photo in another FB group or something?

He's a monkey, and only does it if he knows I am watching. ;)

She's great, a character, but kind. And I know I look down, I don't mind that you mentioned it. I need to video myself riding her a bit so I can see how what I am feeling is looking, if that makes sense. x

Yes, definitely feeling happier now that I can ride again. Not quite the same as Cam, but at least I have the continuity with the part loan. He's been off for 7 months now. It's been a longish slog, but hopefully will be worth it in the long run.

Ooops the perils of grabbing the nearest available iPad with son's ID logged in. :/
