Just have to tell you all:

So ive been at the Silversand Clinic for the past 5 days with Chantin. What an amazing experience it has been for all involved. It rained nearly everyday but that didnt bother any of us. We had a great time and lots of fun, so much so ive booked in for next year.
We had classroom like sessions for an hour or so in the morning then got the horses out for 3hrs up till lunch, then another classroom session straight after lunch then the horses were out again for about 3hrs in the afternoon, then another classroom session straight after that.

So I went with 1 horse and I have come home with a totally different horse. I think I am now seeing the real Chantin. She was a nightmare on the first day and it was so bad I lost it completely. One of the instructors came over to me to see how I was doing. I put my hands out with the rope and stick towards them, burst out crying and off I went up the field. I was just so emotional with Chantin it just got too much. She was being a right pain in the backside but by the following afternoon she started to relent, and by day 5 I have a new horse!

Its been so good for my confidence with her that I have completely changed my outlook on her. She is no longer the uptight, stressed out youngster I once had but now is a nice, loving, chilled, relaxed horse. The fire breathing dragon that everybody else feels I have will not believe how she is now. So no more calmers for her, just correct handling and behaviour from me.

My main goal was to get Chantin to be less stressed and not OTT with everything. By the 3rd day the instructor Steve Halfpenny was riding her around with a halter on and saddle then insisted I got on to do the same to show it wasnt magic. By the 5th day I was riding her around doing all sorts of work with her in a halter, no hat (lost it in my friends tack room!) I was no longer scared of things she used to do. She did everything I asked of her and more.

The only bad bits of the 5 days is: on the 2nd day my car broke badly and cost me over £300 to sort, and then my current YO sent me a text message that I must clear all my gear off her yard by this Friday when our agreed leaving date is 14th! Well it didnt spoil my time as I wasnt going to let it so if that was their intention it hasnt worked!

Lots of photos have been taken but not by me. Will post them as soon as I get hold of the discs which maybe tonight.

Oh wow, sounds like a real experience! However, I have no idea what that Silversand Clinic is but would love to know more

I am so pleased that it went well for you... and Chantin certainly seems to have responded to the work from what you have said.

What is Silver sands - presume it is something to do with natural horsemanship methods - would love to know more - must have missed your earlier posts

cheers GB. I didnt know what to expect from the clinic, but all I wanted was some idea of how to communicate with Chantin better and help here to become less stressed. But this is amazing. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. Will be speaking to one of the photographers tonight so fingers crossed he has a disc for me!

God how thick am I - I really shouldve explained better!

This is the link for Silversand Natural Horsemanship. Its run by a guy called Steve Halfpenny and his wife Irena from Australia. They do clinics all over the place and the one ive been on is at my NH trainers home - Lisa Bruin.
Steve is one amazing man. The horses just do so well with him. He said Chantin was away with the fairies on the first day but could see an amazing change between the 2 of us withing the 2nd day. At 6ft 6 3/4in he is one tall guy - looked very odd on some of the 14hh ponys but made mine look like a pony when he sat on her. Hes got very long legs! Will def get some photos of him and me on her as soon as I can.

it was great fun. We all had a good laugh even when we wet wet through. It didnt seem to bother any of us one bit.
Im so pleased with how she responded as she hated the parelli work we did with her. Onwards and upwards. Got to get loads better for next year when we go back!

I couldnt do that however I couldve shot her on the first morning when she was being a t**t! Shes so relaxed now. They stayed at my trainers yard last night as I didnt know whether or not I was getting my disco back or not so fetched them this lunch. She strolled onto the trailer and strolled off at the other end. I like the real Chantin!

Having not yet met Chantin I'll have to take your word for it when I see the new improved version. What date is the camp next year? Is it before 6 week hols? I could do with de-stressing Molly - Monday night I was in tears too (long story).
