I've got a new horse coming in August!

Have held off saying much until I'd tried her out properly but she's coming on the 19th of august. I've found a lovely home for my boy Rhyn, he's off to be a hunting pony with a great family in Dorset. So I now have a mare coming - never had a mare before

She seems lovely. 15.3hh, Hanovarian bay mare, 13 yo. Used to be a SJer in Germany in a past life but hasn't done much for the last couple of years. Hasn't been inside a school for 12 months but she does know her stuff. Needs to get fit and get all thr right muscle developed again to get her off her forehand but I'm looking forward to having something new to work with. She knows a good bit of lateral work, lovely medium trot, nice paces, and seems a very honest mare when jumping. Owner says she will comfortably jump 3ft/3ft3, which should be perfect for me as my aim is to hopefully do some Intro eventually.

Wish me luck, I will probably be on here every other day looking for help and advice with the new one! I'm not used to something so big or a mare!!

Congratulations! She sounds great. I'm sure her height won't be a problem for you. I have often found that horses are easier to do than ponies.

She feels fine size wise, feels better than my 14.2hh now as, despite being 26 (me, he's 11!), I feel like i've "outgrown" him. I thought she would feel huge but she's fine, just need to learn to keep her together and ride her properly now!!

thats great news im glad you found someone nice for rhyn, were abouts in dorset is he ? i mite see him about somewhere !!
good luck with your new girl she sounds perfect for you congrats i hope you have a great time together cant wait to see pics

Fantastic news , am glad it's all worked out well for you and Rhyn.

Would love to see some photo's of him out hunting if they ever send you any. Bet he'll look fab.

I've got a few pics us out hunting but not on PC. They've invited me to go down and hunt him this season as their son is a bit small/young to hunt him this year (although he will take him cubbing - sorry, autumn hunting

). He loves it, of all the things I've ever done with him hunting is the one thing he really took to.

Wahooooooooooo!!

Now come on, your promised me some great pics

Grumpy mares are the best

So pleased for you CC....It takes a while sometimes to find the right loan home for your horse but once you do things start to fall into place.
New mare sounds wonderful :0) Good luck with her.

Sounds like a lovely horsie, can't wait to see the photos.

Glad you've found a nice home for Rhyn (though it's not beyond welsh D's to do an intro or two (mine did last summer at the age of 24)).

Best of luck with the new one. Don't worry about her being a mare. We have two now. One is a bit humpy being groomed on her tummy and saddled, but other than that they aren't mare-y mares at all.

Thanks. I did see quite a lot of people and spoke to loads, but I just knew on the phone to these people that they would be perfect for him. Their yard is great too and what I really like is that they're realistic....I spoke to so many people who expect a pony to be 100% bombproof all of the time. He's not a machine, plus he's a Welsh cob!

YAY how brilliant!

I bet Rhyn will enjoy his new home - sounds like it has all fallen into place nicely.

Sorry I have only just noticed this post [durr]

Wishing you all the best!

To be honest he's really comfortable jumping at 2ft6/2ft9, and i would want to be jumping 3ft regularly to do an Intro. He will have a go at 3ft but if the ground isn't right, or if it's very wide etc he does stop. Just a bit too far out of his comfort zone. He will however do 3ft when hunting as long as it's not every jump at that height, as the adrenalin is up. He just adores hunting so it made sense to send him somewhere that he can do that all the time!
