Having had only girldog for so long, who is very neat and dainty in her toilet habits, curlydog is proving to be more of a challenge...

He cocks his leg to wee but will then walk off halfway through, continuing to wee and often splashing the back of his front legs. :o He'll mince along for a good few steps, still weeing.

A.) Is this normal or something to be concerned about

and

B.) How can I encourage him to stand still? He needs a bath anyway but if he carries on weeing on himself he will get whiffy very quickly.

Take him out for a pee on a lead and encourage him to stand still/not let him walk forwards? B has two streams (Dont. Ask) one of which usually hits his front leg *sigh* you might want to dipstick his pee just do make sure he doesn't have an infection and is being compelled to go in unusual circumstances.

Both my boys will quite happily stand still to wee, however if they can't be bothered to stand still or there is something more interesting then they will often walk off and yes wee over their own legs....Tis lovely!

Stanley is my first boy dog and I too was horrified how he manages to pee on his face . He is 9 months old and isn't getting much better :o.

I know what you mean, Diesel was the same if he was loose , it just seemed he couldnt wait until he got to the next post to wee. Once he was neutered he seems to have more control and has lost the urge to wee everywhere.

Funnily my old bear who was entire was very clean in his habits and never splashed his legs but he was 5yrs old and maybe its a youthful enthusiastic thing.

If I try to keep him still he tries to circle round, wazzing everywhere. He also does the *scritch scritch* with the back legs and sends clumps of mud my way afterwards. Charming.

Got to register him with the vets anyway so I might try to grab a sample, it's a normal colour and his willy appears normal (as far as I can tell, no double streams! :p).

Both Dylan and Teal pee like girls :) but Dylan cocks his leg when out. Unfortunately it could be a hip thing with mine. But Dylan has two streams like B catches his hind paw and he prefers to pee on my path rather than grass Eeew.

Cant comment on the wee thing as Dexie still squats like a big girl!! He does the scrit scrat tho- which is V annoying!!

It took Yellow Dog ages to learn to cock his leg - he sort of squatted and his pee would shoot forward all over his front legs, we had to make sure we weren't in front of him when he needed a wee :D He also does the scratching thing tho he knows not to do it if I'm behind him (tho others aren't so lucky :o )

Boys are gross in all species, then. :p

I shouldn't have worried, he's a pro at having a bath, just stood there with a long-suffering expression and let me properly soap and rinse with the shower head. He's surprisingly small and skinny under all the fluff. :)

I made the mistake of laughing when B was over-enthusiastically scent marking when he was younger and the more I laughed, the more extravagant and overblown the scentmarking became - now it's like a three-act play every time he takes a whizz.

LOL Miley never pees on himself but regularly cocks his leg on the girls! Flora is the one that walks off still peeing! Cant stay still long enough!

My two still squat at a year old, even though big dog is showing them the proper way that a boy should go: I am horrified because they almost invariably pee on their front legs. :o:(

Jakey was terrible for peeing down himself-couldn't stand still long enough because walks were just too exciting! He as also a peripatetic pooer and dropped small amounts in a huge radius because again, he just could not contain himself, it was all too exciting. :D

Abe pees all over himself regularly.
I keep a spray bottle of a water and leave in odor control shampoo in the garage so I can spray him then use sham wow to dry him off.

Well we think dex is 18-24 months.... maybe he will never cock his leg? LOL. Has never peed on himself though!

Throp often gets pee on his front legs & can manage it even when marking stood still. Throp usually cleans his legs himself so i leave him to it unless its bad and then i just use a wetwipe to clean it off. My other boy Hector was never much of a leg cocker & preferred to squat, He still occasionally got pee on his socks which Throp would also clean off for him.
