Everytime i walk Gizmo ( 10 month JRT X Border T ) past a butchers he goes strange it really upsets him and he will do everything not to pass it. Today i had to grab him and pick him up as he just kept backing into the road that was our top butchers i put him down when i past it and sat with him untill he chilled i then carried on with our walk past lots of shops and people fine :) then we came up to our 2nd butches so i got his attention well before with a treat he was fine then as soon as we got to the door he went mad ???

So whats going on would you say it the smell ?? hubby says its the smell of death ?

Normal dogs love butchers :) :) but not my terrier thats such a wuss, my plan is lots of walk and im going to spend time sitting near the butches with lots of fuss and treats and try and get him to calm down plus get hubby to go buy some bits from the shop and see if that helps.

Has anyone else come across this?

LOL!!! :D Yellow Dog doesnt like the butchers during the day, he's scared of the wierd chicken model/sign thing they have outside it - if they don't have it out then he walks past it fine

ok now i know i should be in bed cos i have just spent 2 minutes thinking (re your sig. Zalacca) ...a horsebox and plenty of lard? what on earth is she going to do with a horsebox and lard??

As for OP...who knows what goes on in their heads. Mickey has some real what i call Roy Cropper (off Coronation St) moments when something isnt as it should be (in his mind anyway).
For example, on my bday i got some flowers with a helium ballon that i let float to the ceiling in the corner of the living room. M was fine with that, had a look at it decided it was ok, no probs. 2 days later slight breeze wafts balloon to opposite corner....M went barmy, circling and barking madly till i moved it back to 'it's' corner.
Last week whilst digging holes for new fenceposts my BiL unearthed a fair sized rock and just put it near the gate. M sauntered into the yard, saw it and went off on one, barking crazily but wagging his tail in his 'im scared of you but pretending not to be' stance. He's done this with all kinds of things and i have to go up to offending item, touch and pat it to reassure him its not a massive dog munching scary thing, he comes up has a sniff and all is right in his world again.

Butchers shop tho..hmm dunno, maybe he thinks they'll reach out and grab him and make him into hotdogs? :p

My akita used to hate passing or going into pet shops, her tail that is obs always curled would drop straight as a die and her ears would go down:confused: "I could not carry her":D:p so would either make ehr go in and get over it if I needed something or walk her swiftly by, I never go to pet shops now so not sure what she would think of them these days.

My dog cannot deal with patches of light, so either sunlight on the floor through the window or reflections from shiny things...... Goes tense, barks like mad but wags his tail as well.....

Wierd mutt really!
