We have a strong cob and the stronger the bit and the more we pull the faster he goes, so we have learnt not to pull no matter what, and if he goes we just let him - he slows down after a few strides.

When we bought him he came in a pelham for schooling in manage! I put him straight on a french link and he now schools and hacks in a snaffle.

Have you done much schooling with her. It does make a difference and may reduce the need for whipping so much.

from the sounds of it i wouldnt take much notice of you if you kept whipping me!

would some lessons maybe help?

I agree that lessons from a good instructor may help. Otherwise the cob will be dead to the leg and in the mouth before long. My strong horses are all in snaffles of various types, have found a grakle good for one that crosses her jaw when she pulls - has worked wonders without using a strong bit or rough riding!
