I have an idea! We should have a HHO Flood Survival Guide!

Yes, here are my tips.
1) take pics of your horses near water, then upload to facebook with an appeal for help.
2) ask all & sundry to donate expensive forage & bedding, & preferably free livery.
3) visit www.rentanidiot.com. & arrange a shipping order to arrive en masse & 'liase'.
4) do not feed horses the expensive donated stuff, it doesn't look pitiful enough
5) ask rentanidiots to spread rumours of your plight.
6) move to a different area, then back to step 1.

Not such a silly idea.

As far as I'm aware there is very little guidance and help available.

In 2007 we produced some thoughts - see:

http://www.ridingsafely.net/july_2007_news.html#Headlines

(Scroll down past "Foot and Mouth" until you get to "Flooding")

I'm sure that some, if not many of the links are out of date. Is it the be all and end all guide? Of course not. There was the hope that this would form the basis for Defra, Insurers and the industry to grasp and expand upon. It didn't happen.

Since 2007 we've seen the occurences of flooding on the increase with more extensive spread.

I sympathise with those currently suffering. Up to date practical guidance needs to be produced and a good starting point will be for those who are currently suffering (or have suffered in the past) to share their experiences, particularly difficulties encountered and solutions found.

So no, not a silly idea. The reins need taking up on this one - over to you.
