I have an informal interview for a yard staff job and I have no idea what to wear :o

Obviously I want to make a good impression but most of my riding stuff is scruffy as heck.

Any tips would be appreciated - the job sounds perfect :)

Given that you don't know, I would also guess it's best to be prepared! Do you have a neat-looking long-sleeved jacket, in case it's a bit chilly for the polo shirt?

My sister had an interview (and got the job) for yard manager at a stud yard and she wore smart riding wear. So black jodhs, long boots and a smart top. Good luck with your interview and let us know how you get on :)

Good luck!
I was in the same position a month ago and went for smart riding wear, thank god I did as I was asked to ride when I didn't expect to. Got the job though!

Oooh how exciting good luck! I am also job hunting (not horse related sadly) and I am finding it very painful and I work in HR/ Recruitment so you'd think I'd be prepared! Lol

 I can't remember the last time I rode a horse that wasn't my own.. properly rode, that is - I'm not counting going for a wee walk on my friends rather-bigger-than-he-looks horse a year ago :o

will the fact that I haven't had a horsey job go against me? I really hope not.

well done, jemima_p :D

little wally - we have come to the conclusion that smart riding wear is the best in case you're expected to ride. my boots are in desperate need of a clean before they go anywhere.

BB the yard is about 25 mins away from me but it looks lovely. it's only 3 days a week but that gives me time to get mr jerry out and about.
I haven't been able to do that since I was at school (6 years ago - i feel old :p ) due to a combo of having no horse (but free weekends) and working 14/17 weekends.

so fingers, toes, eyes, legs and hooves crossed please :)

I hadn't had a horsey job either before I went for this one but they weren't bothered at all. Aslong as you're sensible and reliable with a bit of experience it shouldn't be a problem :)

Everything crossed for you!

I would not worry at at all if you had not had a horsey job before I would be interested in why you had decided it start to work with horses.
I would be looking at how you interacted with the horses and how confident you seemed ( judging if I could leave you alone) and see if I could judge how easy you would find to work within our system and retain your indendant thought if that makes sense.
I would expect you to nervous if it's a riding trial and would not judge to harshly if you where .
