I got tagged in a fb post. Someone local had picked up a lop eared rabbit on the side of the main road. They lived in a tiny house with a cat and didn’t know what to do with it.
I have a spare run and house so offered to care for if while we try and find it’s owners.
If we can’t, it’s a bit like fate. Jon bun died over the weekend and Bella needs a buddy, my job for today was supposed to be calling round to try and find one. I didn’t get round to it and then this happens!
Fate?
I’ve put ads up on fb local pages and so has the lady who found him or her. I can phone round vets in the morning, maybe check for a chip?
What else? I don’t like the idea of it being a child’s missing pet (although I’d kind of like to keep it!)

I think that if you have put ads up and called vets, you have done all you reasonably can (especially if there is no chip found, some rabbits have them so it's worth scanning). If it was me, I would take them in but resist bonding for a week or so.

It does sound like fate though and rabbits are so mistreated, this one sounds lucky to have found their way to you.

The owner was found, he’s a very much loved little buck called Fiver, almost 2 neutered and desperate for a new home before the family move house!

I literally just let him be tonight, I assume he’s had bit of a stressful time, apparently he’s very cuddly and friendly so will see what I can do tomorrow

Nice one! Needless to say, be sure to check he’s definitely neutered, when you take him to get his vaccinations done!

Really stupid question but is that as simple as checking he has balls?
I’m not sure I’ve had an adult buck who’s not already been done.

I think that rabbits can retract their bits if they’re scared, but a vet should be able to manipulate him to see if he’s still got anything down below!

Thank you! It was very unexpected, he was starting to come out of his shell a bit for the first time since we got him 5 years ago!

He was a blue cross rabbit and adult when we had him so may well have been older than thought.

Probably he was older than you thought, but sometimes, even though not old, things in our body can just stop working. One of my moggy cats had a liver that just stopped working when she was only 5 or 6 years old, indoor + out in a cat enclosure only, so no chance she'd gotten in contact with something she shouldn't. Took her to the vets who tried to help her, but her liver just wouldn't start working properly again. So we had to euthanise her.

If there was no sign of struggle, he hopefully went very peacefully. {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}

Hope Fiver will settle in, and bond with Bella, without too much trouble.

Sorry to hear your news about Jon, I had bunnies as a child and they do seem to have a habit of taking very little time between getting poorly and dying

I saw your other thread, I presume if that was the case the bedding would have been all churned up where he would have been chased, also wouldn't they have fought if 2 boys so there would be fur etc.

If he was a rescue, maybe he was an older boy and just lay down and died of old age/ an illness or heart attack. If he was in his bed, he may even have gone peacefully in his sleep. Such a shame it was just as he was starting to come out of his shell.

Definitely sounds like fate regarding the new addition, however we definitely need photos!
