As many of you know, Grace is just getting over her lameness.

The past three days she has trotted up sound, so tonight I took her in the arena with the view of doing some long and low work with her like I did last night. Someone was already in there doing a few small jumps, and much to my disgust after warming her up long and low I pointed her towards the cross and she cleared it by a mile!!!

I have never jumped her before (an eventer has started jumping her for me), but the higher the jump the more careful she was over it. She wobbled a little coming into them, but never once did I feel she would stop

I am so pleased with her and cannot stop grinning tonight... I know it was not the best idea jumping her but she lit up when she saw the jumps and really enjoyed it. I trotted her up after untacking her and she remained sound!

So, for the first time I have jumped Grace

Can't quite believe what I have read here. She is just getting over her lameness and you jumped her. Then when she is lame again you will be wondering why. Sorry but just seems plain daft to me, especially after all the worry you have been through in your posts about her lameness over the last couple of weeks.

I said I know it was irresponsible... I am not particularly proud of it, but they were on the lowest hole and crosses (it was a young girl jumping her pony). I worked her 'properly' yesterday anyway, and the cantering work I did with her was a lot more impact on that foot than the small jumps, so please don't judge me too harshly.

hope no one judges you to harshly, after all we are only human and prone to doing daft things or making mistakes, no one is perfect after all! and I'm sure if we are all honest with ourselves we've all done something daft or made a mistake with horses at some time!

Thanks Pidge... I have never had the guts to jumps her, and because it was a tiny little cross (she could have stepped over it, it was that small) I just did it about 4 times and then carried on working her as normal.

I know it was a silly thing to do, but I don't do silly things very often and with everything that is going on in my life at the moment, I just felt so fed up!

hope that cheers you up and don't beat yourself up about it!
to put it into perspective look at all the people out there who intentionally abuse horses and other animals and humans as well. there is a big difference in doing something to cheer yourself up as to intentionally doing something nasty. Fingers crossed she is still sound

Sorry, I must have misread your opening post. As I thought it said the higher the jump the more careful she got over them and you never thought once that she would stop.

I don't think I made myself clear... had a few drinkies last night

I meant that when the eventer jumped her, she was more careful the higher she jumped. She had her doing some pretty big spreads which I would not even dare

What I was trying to say was she did not jump as well as she has done because it was a piddly tiny cross. But to me it was huge (I am not a confident jumper since a very bad fall which has left me with permanent neck pain).

Don't worry, I think it is me who is losing the plot! Just glad that she is sound again and you can ride her. She is a stunning horse that's for sure.

Hmmm... she wasn't so stunning yesterday morning when I put her out in the field on her own (as advised by the vet when she came sound) and she proceeded to give me an absolute heart attack by galloping the full length, squeeling and bucking!!! I would have given her away happily yesterday morning, especially when I saw an over reach boot fly through the air at top speed

Luckily, I found it

Glad you felt confident enough to jump and that it went well, but do be careful honey. I know how tempting it is to kinda cheat a little when they are just coming back into work, Im going through the same thing myself at the mo, but its worth it. Think how wonderful it will be when you dont have to worry about her being unsound. I hope it all goes well for you and her.

I know... won't be doing it again

I trotted her up this morning, and she is completely sound

I have put her out with the other mares this morning with her over reaches on, so hopefully I can ride her tonight and start working on her schooling again! The difference a week has made is incredible. But then I suppose I sort of know how sore she was, as I have had some wicked blisters and been in agony because my shoe was rubbing.

She would have done more damage to herself hooning around in the field on the rock hard ground than hopping over a tiny cross pole on a surface ... dont beat yourself up or let others do it for you, you know how she felt and I am sure you wouldnt have done it if she felt wrong

Blooming heck, some people *tut tut*

Fact is, she is sound - and her lameness appeared to have come from shoeing/foot/imbalance and you were jumping a X pole - YOU WICKED WICKED WOMAN

Go for it I say, a little of what you fancy will do no harm whatsoever

Hope you had fun and will continue!

I did actually enjoy it... I don't usually like leaving the floor, but when she goes in straight boy can Grace jump

She just wobbles to the jump (only trotted) so the eventer who started her jumping for me will hopefully she will grow in her own confidence.
