I have grown up with horses all my life, but I just started to get serious when I was about 7. I am 18 now. I'v just started to get real serious about four years ago.
Starting about 2006, my mother was searching far and wide for a perfect little cute "at home" pony that I could mess around with, have fun with, have lessons on, and maybe even attend some shows. We had been looking for a while then my mom saw this pony out in a padock at the beach just standing by herself. We tried her, she was good and cute and we bought her.
We got her home and she was good and all, I fell of the first time I rode her but this was my fault because I trotted her bareback and bounced up her neck. She was good even though I hardly had no clue about riding (at least compared to now). She would sometimes bolt or occasionally spin, reach down to snatch some grass. She would crow-hop and kick just one leg out when adults would get on. She usauly only crow hopped at the canter. I wasn't that good of a rider and I cantered mainly in 2 pt with my reins way to tight, so when she would jerk her head down and drop one shoulder, I would come off.
Now I am 18. When I first got back in to riding her about the spring of 2013, I fell off. I had just gotten on and was getting my reins together, with her just standing there, she gave a little buck, and I came off. I got back on and made to gather my reins more quickly and keep her head up, and I was good.
Over the past 3 months, she has been HORRIFIC. Not just the little cute crow hop at the canter. As soon as I get on and ask her to move, she takes a few choppy steps and full out bucks, when I try to keep her head up and ask for her to move forward, she rears then bucks. The first time she did this I stayed on, but I banged my nose. After she does this a few times, she's usaully good. Last time I got on her, she did this. I lunged her first and everything. She got me off five times! People watching said she went flat out rodeo and had all 4 feet off the ground and ears pinned and looked as if she had springs in her legs. I was afraid to get back on so this other crazy chick (She has worked for some big time trainers and she teaches riding lessons) gave me the horse she was on (Cat) and said she would lunge the dickens out of the pony (Clara) for me because I insisted she couldn't go back to the barn behaving like that. She lunged Clara until Clara was a hot mess. Then she tried to get on (my exact words "do you want my helmet"(No, she said)) and Clara did the jumping thing. It looked really scary and the girl slid off and aggressively lunged her some more. Then the crazy chick got back on again. I hollered at her to do something I forgot (but always do) which was to pull Clara's nose to her toe and spin her around in tight circles. She did this and said it wasn't helping, but continued to try to ride. She said Clara offered to buck, but was too dead dog tired to do it. She walked Clara a little then stopped a long while to talk to someone. I kept saying to my self I'm going to get back on soon, but I haven't yet.
I'm not afraid to ride, just scared to ride that horse. I keep thinking I will get back on her once I have consistent groundwork for at least a week. It is already pretty much determined she is not hurting that she is just a bitch. I think I am going to attempt to work her like she is just a colt starting out. This problem has been bothering me ever since. I just want to have one ride on her then send her back to her trainer.
