Anyone else with me?

I've finally bought my first wardrobe of rugs! (first time I've owned my own horse, it's all very exciting scraping together a wardrobe :D) I'm sure there'll be a few (a lot) more additions to come, but I think I've ordered the bulk in preparation for his clip either tomorrow or the day after, and also the dreaded Winter that is fast approaching  Anyone else nutty about rugs and wardrobes? I haven't gone completely matchy matchy, but have chosen the prettiest/most garish colours I can find :p Please tell me I'm not alone in the obsession! xx

lol my daughter finds it so amusing that i have so many rugs but the lass only wears a fly rug lol i have rain sheets light weight turn out and night rugs and medium weight rugs to but she goes naked other than fly rug lol so mmmmm i had rug addiction but now we go nude he he he he what ever the weather :) x

MrsM - Oh I'm certainly enjoying it :D Credit card is NOT.. I'll be eating bread and cheese until New Years :p Still, the beastie will be kept warm and pampered which is all that matters to me at the mo :D

babymare - she may be naked, but there's always that 'just in case' :D

Dancing Queen - it certainly is!! Unfortunately all my shoes are falling to bits.. hmm, thanks for reminding me, looks like the credit card is going to be hit doubly hard :p And  I'm hoping mine will last over a year.. hoping!! Would be rather cool to update them yearly though! xx

Good luck to you!! I know how you feel, my mare has 25 rugs. and I use them all :-s. I hate to think how many saddle cloths I own, it is painful!!

i second the voice that 'there is no cure' i freely admit that since owning my first horse 2 years ago i have bought/collected/sold enough rugs to clothe a small yard of horses :D

i have narrowed my collection down this year in order to make room for new rugs!

real rug collectors buy youngsters so they can buy rugs constantly for three/four years ;) my three year old has finished growing in the rug department so i bought a foal ;)

have fun, a rug addiction is something not easily solved as the thought of you horse all snuggled up in a new clean rug in the harsh british weather makes you buy atleast two new ones! ;)

I have over 100 rugs ...

I have 15 horses/ponies ...

They all have travel rugs, stable rugs, turnout rugs, spare turnout rugs, the TB's have at least 8 rugs each for various things - i have 4 TB's ...

There is no cure! I find it best to not look at my bank balance!

I pity people with a rug addiction! It's far too complicated for me.
My old lad had the grand total of 4 rugs (2 of which were over 25 years old!). Luckily, he never, ever trashed any and I'm a firm believer in looking after stuff. He was a right wuss of a native too, if the weather was anything less than ambient, he shivered!
Now, I have Markie and inherited his huge rug collection! Lots of brand names, lots of matchy, matchy stable and outdoor in varieties of weights, it's so confusing for my simple brain. After I clipped him, I had a choice of 5 different lightweights, 4 slightly heavier lightweights and 1 that says lightweight but could masquerade as a medium. I haven't even looked at the 'heavy' section since my mate drooled and nearly passed out at several 'Rambo' labels! Going to be difficult when it's cold enough to hack out in quarter sheets, he has yellow, orange and pink hi-viz, all fleece lined, blue fleece lined showerproof and blue just fleecy.............I'm going to have to colour co-ordinate myself to match!
I think I'll just sort a few out to use, what a waste to have such a wardrobe when I don't appreciate it!
However, stirrup irons and bridles..............can't resist them!

"real rug collectors buy youngsters so they can buy rugs constantly for three/four years"
GUILTY ! :D :D :D :D :D
I had a 2yo New Forest pony, I went mad buying her rugs and ended up with at least 20+. I sadly lost her in April, aged 5yo to grass sickness. I went down to the New Forest and bought another 2yo in May. So, She has inherited a full rug wardrobe, BUT, my last pony wore 5'3" then moved up to 5'6". I'm going to HAVE to buy more rugs because the 2yo I bought in May is already in a 5'6" !
It gets even better, I'm off to collect ANOTHER youngster, a 3yo Welsh D, on Thursday. She's currently in 6' rugs but being a cob, will fill out a lot and need LOTS of rugs as she grows :D. I've already bought her 4 rugs (2nd hand for when she arrives) for her and she's still 150 miles away :D.
There's a local tack shop having a rug sale at the weekend too, guess where I'll be ? ;) :D

Glad to hear I'm not alone! And it appears my rug addiction is actually relatively mild compared to some! :D And speaking of youngsters and rugs (adore the saying BTW!), I swear mine's grown! Now have to flog an unused Premier Equine Rug, I guess since he's muscled up it's on the snug side now. Meh :( Anyway, he looked snug as a bug in a rug (:D) this evening with his newly done clip and brand new stable rug on :D Rugs make winter cheerful I think! :p xx

I was just talking about this subject this morning - I don't want to count up how many rugs I've got but I could probably clothe the whole yard.... I bet my rugs added together money wise would probably be worth more than my horse!

Ha ha I have over 30 rugs for 2 of my horses. Unfortunately they are 6ft3 and 6ft9, new baby is 6ft6....
But I'm a poor student and can't afford to shop for lots of rugs for him, especially as he is an alleged rug ripper  so he will have to have cheapy bare minimums :( It breaks my heart!!!! Lol

ETA there is NO going back, you will continue to buy several rugs a season FOREVER!! lol

You really can't ever have too many! What if one gets ripped/trashed, and so does the backup, and the backup of the backup?! :D :p And getting matching leadropes and headcollars is all part of the fun! Although seeing as mine are already caked in mud, it doesn't make much difference I guess ;) xx

I love searching for rug bargains. :D It's so satisfying when you get a top quality, brand new rug for a fraction of the price. I agree about the growing youngsters feeding the rug addiction thing, I was actually quite pleased to find that my filly needed a new winter rug and even more pleased when I found a Dominick turnout on ebay. It was a total bargain. :p

i think i have near enough 70 rugs because in the last 2 weeks i have bought about another 10 from derby house (simply because they were cheap - even bought fly rugs for next year - they're hiding in a hole in my tack room with the saying "oh they'll get used one day...")

my ponies all have at least 1 turnout, 2 stables & 3 coolers each - i have 6 ponies. turnouts is something i'm lacking. the shetlands all have turnouts for this year so don't need to buy them - but the 2 big boys need new ones!!

Me too! I have enough rugs to rug every horse on the yard :o

Slightly addicted but I love seeing him in a new, cosy rug. There's no turning back for u now haha!

I'm tight with my rugs I try to make them last!! I repair and re-proof every year as I have an awkward to fit horse and only certain rugs fit him. Plus he is a
mud baby and lovely shiny flashy rugs end up been brown so why spen money unnecessarily? Saying that, I am a secret numnah and bit squirrel!!!

Thank god I'm not the only one!! WOuldn't mind but up until a few years ago my cob was out 24/7 unrugged but since I started clipping and hunting he's got more in his wardrobe than me!! I started cleaning out my shed the other day and found 3 old feed bags with rugs stuffed in them, one of them I swear I've never seen it before!! Lol!! I even found an old Fal that someone gave me before I even bought my own horse that I was going to get repaired and reproofed!!

Still doesn't stop me looking at sales and I very nearly bought one the other day...still on offer so might go back and take another peek....

Don't get me started on saddle pads..now them I really do have a problem with!!!;)

OOPS !!!!! :D:D:D:D:D
I bought 4 more rugs for my new horse today :p
I'd bought some 2nd hand from an ad on Gumtree to do her till I bought new ones. A WB Genero Combo (MW) - it has 1 leg strap missing but otherwise in great condition.
A fly rug for summer (well, the seller asked if I wanted that too ).
I asked if she had a 6 ft stable rug too. She said she would have a look.
She brought the rugs to my house, I had a quick look and bought them (very cheaply).
The Masta stable rug was quite dirty so once in the house, I cleaned the label and found that it was 7 ft , WAY too big for my horse. (My yard owner is buying it from me ).
I managed to buy a 5ft9 mw stable rug from my friend (3" too short, but would "do").
So, today, I had to go buy feed for my new horse arriving tomorrow. I just COULDN'T RESIST looking at the rugs :D.
So, I bought her a standard neck fleece to travel her home in (150 miles).
A standard neck Masta mw stable rug.
A full neck WB Combo fleece cooler (for bath time before shows).
A new WB Genero Combo mw turnout.
But looking on the bright side, my YO asked today if I had any other rugs I don't need, she could buy them for her small ponies .
So, after bringing new horsey home and settling her in, I'll be going through all of my rugs to see what I don't need. They are all 5ft - 5ft6, bought for my young NF pony. She sadly had to be PTS, so I went and bought another NF 2yo. Thinking "great, I won't need to buy her any rugs", WRONG ! She is only 2yo and already takes a 5ft6 ! So, my YO is going to get a whole load of 5ft - 5ft3 (and maybe the odd 5ft6) for her pony broodmares & school ponies :D.
(I'll HAVE to buy my 2yo NF something now though since my 3yo has new rugs. The only thing I've bought for her so far was a rope halter for showing. Think she can have a New rug of her own, since her other ones are inherited from my last pony).

Good grief you lot ..........I must be a very nasty mummy to my beasties ....

Each horse has twosummer sheets (one on and one clean), Stable rug (old duvets for extra warmth when needed)two med turnouts (one dry and one in use) and a Thermetex which is the rug that I just could not function without - used to dry, extra layers, travel, warm up etc such a versitile rug. The 'youngest' rug is probably 7yrs old and the oldest a Rhino Horseware stable which I bought new for my first horse back in 1986 !!

Makes storage easy !!

so heres my collection: 25 rugs (my new boy came with a heap that are ugly old and definitely not matcy matchy i had a MASSIVE panic attack so enter my attempt to flog them on ebay and buy a complete matching wardrobe foy the princess pony!!

8 headcollars
10 saddle pads
12 sets of 4 bandages
4 sets of 4 brush boots
6 leadropes
2 grooming kits
6 bridles
3 saddles(though to be fair 2 are very old and worn)
7 stirrups( of which 5 dont match :) )
