As above but I still want to ride and do things, so do any of you out there recommend another option than plaster? So far I have refused but seeing the big cheese on Monday.....it is only the little toe bone near the ankle. I can walk on it but if I tread on a nugget it hurts like hell!!

I did it on Tuesday after a wonderful hack. As I was dismounting I caught my coat on the cantle and came off 'funny', I then hit my lads foot with mine. I apologised to him staright away...but then I realised it hurt more than it should! I have pins and plate in the ankle so it didn't turn over like most folks do.....
My other problem is both knees have been replaced and cannot hop any longer...specialist says NO WAY!

Please give me any light at the end of the tunnel....and not a train coming towards me.

If you've fractured the fifth metatarsal near the ankle the pain should resolve in about three weeks without a cast. Casts will abolish the pain immeidately, it needn't be a heavy plaster of paris cast, there are much lighter materials in use these days. Given all your other problems it may be you need to keep your knees and ankles moving and you would be better off without a cast. You can take regular painkiller and should avoid putting any pressure on the foot. As far as riding goes it would depend on your pain and on your ability to avoid pressure from the strirrup and be able to get off the horse without putting pressure on your foot.

Your poor legs seem to have been through the wars!!!

I fell off and broke my 5th metatarsal a few years ago, doctor just put it in tubi-grip and gave me crutches, I was back on the horse 2 days later :o and off crutches after a week.

I was told to keep trying to walk on mine.

Thankyou jendie and dibbin. You have both made me feel a whole lot better about refusing a plaster cast! I have been gardening all morning today after doing the horses with my OH!
I am going to have a sit down, foot up and read the H&H this afternoon!
