Here I am Miss Pathetic Pants I have finally phone up about a horse I have has my eye on for erm 3 weeks.

Why the reticence - his photo looks so much like Gulliver I dont think I should go near him.

I rang once and to my relief no one answered!

Then I smacked myself and rang again and left a message so nervous they probably think I am a right muppet.

So Gulliver is in my sig piccy 3.

The advert is on HORSEQUEST pricemovers Talented Sport Horse Advert 22 down Talented 5 Year old. If anyone knows him or owner I would be so interested to hear.

I dont know really lots of reasons here are a few :-

I hate the stress of finding a horse I like and it failing the Vet

There are a lot of Sharp people out there and I believe what I am told

I am a one horse person and so will persevere for too long with the wrong horse if I make a mistake.

If I buy the wrong horse unless I get back what I paid I wont be able to replace it easily because of finances

I dont like riding other peoples horses in front of them

My sister nicknamed me Anxious Annie when I was 15 and now the digits are reversed I am just as bad.

I could go on forever but you get the drift.

I once bought 'the wrong horse' lost a lot of money and my confidence it was a lot of years ago but it still makes me ache. Among the questions I asked :-

Is she good in traffic - Answer she doesnt like tractors.

What wasnt said was 'or bicycles or cars or motorbikes or lorries or etc etc' when she shied at a lorry she would shy across in front of it to get away!

I really sympathise. I bought what I thought was my perfect horse last year and lovely as she is, she's been nothing short of a bl**dy expensive disaster. I've spent the last few weeks searching for an affordable ( I can't sell my mare to pay for it) replacement riding horse. Try not to let your bad experience make you scared of trying again, use it to make you more careful, more suspicious and don't trust a word you're told, ask to see everything for yourself before you buy one you like. I think I've found a horse now through word of mouth ( its got to pass a vetting this week

) but answering adverts is a nightmare. Best of luck.

My intention is to look twice - once to see if I like and then take a second opinion with me. My best friend will come but to be frank she is rubbsh at buying horses.

She give people their answers as in
Presumably it loads ok rather than What is it like to load etc ?

I am going to draw up a list of questions and start of with 'apologies if you dont like my questions but it is important that the horse and I are suited' which I believe should be acceptable if 'home is more imprtant than the price'.

I would simply just start asking questions , I wouldnt even apologise , just simply start of by saying ... "hi , Im just enquiring about the horse you have on etc etc ... Could you tell me abit about the horse ? " and then start with your questions

he looks lovely - well done for calling up about him and writing a list is the way to go - i am like your friend i give the answers when i ask the questions!! not helpful really.
I always worry i am going to give the wrong impression - that i want the horse when i dont, by just trying to be too nice!

Lady called back very nice, very honest he sounds like he is a bit greener than I would like and has a tendency to spook. 10 years ago I would have been quite happy but not now so I wont go and try there is no point.

Thats a shame, but good on you for being picky - its a big step getting a new horse and you stik to your guns and find mr/mrs right x

Good luck finding a horse, it is worth taking your time to find the right one.
I am with you about it being nerve wracking ringing up! I hate ringing people full stop. But if you leave it too long they get sold. I had a huge list of questions to ask, I don't think a seller would mind at all - it shows you know what you are looking for and that you aren't a timewaster. The sellers to watch out for are those that say "why not come and try it anyway" even when the horse clearly doesn't meet your criteria!
