I went to view a horse yesterday and I did exactly what you shouldn't do. I've fallen in love!! (this will be my first horse)

Though I am keeping my head about this ie purchase is subject to vet check and should she fail then I will not be buying her, I ahve arranged a 5 * vet check with independant vets. I am never the less over the moon,

I do have a question for all your experienced horse owners out there and that is I have got to transport her about 2 hours up the road, I am going to hire a van for this, but I have no horse equipment at all and she comes as is no tack or rugs.

I have been around horses long enough to know that we can molly coddle them a bit and threre is a tendancey to sometimes be over cautious but I would like to ask, what are the minumum requirements I am going to need and do to transport her here without turning up at the yard looking like a complete novice??

I should add that i am getting her from a business that deals with international import and export of horses and I don't want to look silly or unknowledgable HELP!!

In terms of her travel, I would get some travel boots. Just in case she's not a very stable traveller and it would be awful if she skinned her legs by stepping off the ramp.

travel boots and tail bandage, plus a cooler rug

plus leather headcollar...lead rope and hay net.....

Tail bandage, horse should come wtih headcollare and rope. Check with owners what it has been ravelled in before. If they don't travel it with boots be careful if you put them on not to upset it.

do travel boots come in different sizes? and for different breeds? she is a 16h 1 thoroughbred.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes and different prices too! Ask the seller what size she'll need and also what size rug, it'd be pain to buy something and it not to fit especially if she's 2 hours away! Good luck with your purchase(es)! And have fun with your new ned!

At 16.1 I would have thought she would need full size travel boots. It sounds like she is coming from a dealer so don't count on getting a headcolar. I once had a horse delivered and he was shooed (sp) off the lorry and left to run across the yard!

sorry but from reading this post you sound very unknowledgable if you don't even know what equipment you will need to transport a horse
