I posted a short while ago about the problems I am having with the owner of the grey mare here. I am wanting to buy her but he is not accepting my offer ( that was more than fair in our horse market)


You may have had to have read that thread to know what I am talking about here.

He is trying every angle with me to get more and more money and I am sick of it!


Now (after promising she would be able to stay with us the entire summer if I hauled her here even if we never made a deal for a sale) he has asked to get her back early because he miraculously (in 24 hours

I think this man is yanking my chain and really trying to call my bluffs. Why would you put someone through that?

Now that this (supposed) buyer is willing to go so high I am worried if I back down and give him the extra $250 we were haggling over before that now he will not even accept THAT

I have just had it and spent the whole night in tears last night. I have no desire or energy to even try and find another horse as perfect for me as her. Did I make a mistake bickering for so long over and extra $250?

I have been through so many "wrong fits" in the past few years that I will never forgive myself for losing out on one that fits so right for me

I just feel so taken advantage of though and do not want to be played a fool


what should I do now? Is any of this even worth it?

yeah id be inclined to sit and wait as well. dont think anyone would actually buy a horse without seeing it!

I think you will find one that is for you again, so worst case senario is he comes and takes her away and you have to start looking again.
Dont bow down to his demands, if he wanted whats best for the horse then he'd let her stay where she is.
What is she and why do you think she is so special and irreplaceable
 
In my experiance people who are in financial trouble (or are greedy...), who think they can screw a bit more money out of a potential buyer will pull any trick.

Your garunteed money so far is possibly less than he might currently be needing or wanting.

Sit & wait. Your offer is down on the table, and you have the money ready.

She and I get along so well. She fits in here so perfect. I had lost immense confidence riding out on the roads and she has the ability to give that confidence back to me.
 
I know it is hard for you, and although i'm sure there are lots of other horses out there that would give you your confidence i am assuming you have offerd quite a lot for her seen as shes so safe there will be something.
try not to lose heart - i dont like people like that and dont tollerate them. I'd tell him to pick her up today - but then i know not everyone is like me!

It is a question of pride over priorities by the sound of things now.

I would be in a quandry too, it must be hugely frustrating and upsetting to feel that this is the right horse for you, but to suspect that you are being taken for a fool by someone who does sound as if he is yanking your chain, no-one likes that. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Basically Jade, chucking ruffled feelings out of the window for a minute, to YOU, is this mare worth the money he wants for her?

There are a few things my husband would consider doing. He'd give the man a bill for keep so far and tell him he could have the horse back after he'd paid it as the arrangement was 'for the summer' or he'd consider 'keep' as part payment. Or, he'd have the horse back in the owners yard pronto. Depends how pissed off he was about the situation.

I'd go with the cold, hard cash on the table, this is what I have, take it or leave it mate option.

as above, but i would up it to what the other offer is supposed to be. i wouldn't be missing out on the horse i loved for $250. in a week or so, you will have forgotten about the extra money. good luck with it.

I have some good news. He said that he will not back down from his commitment that he would accept the extra $250. So basically...If I get him the money I can have her for the extra$250 not the extra $750


He said that he hoped I knew he is "doing me a $500 favor"

I told him that I suspected he was calling my bluff but that I did not care because I was emotionally done with it all.
So I think I have a new horse :O ????????

There was no arrangement for him to pay me for care. She was allowed to stay with us to use for the summer if we arranged transport and cared for her while she was here.


A possible sale was an option if we liked her.

I am sure he knew we would fall in love and he would get his money

well it is not a done deal yet! At this point I hardly trust a word the man says! lol

We shall see if it pans out official. He said he will contact me back on monday .


I hope he stands by his word
 
I dont get it - have you currently got this horse on loan or something and now he wants to sell it? If it was on a trial basis pre-buying it then surely a price was agreed beforehand?

I guess it is just this:


A guy I know has a horse he knew I would love. I have known about this mare for awhile and rode/drove her last year but she was being used and not up for sale until recently. He was not using her this summer and said she could stay with me for the summer to use and if we could come together on a price I may be able to buy her. Either way he said I could have some fun with her and ride her all summer and he could save on his pasture.

He bought a new team recently and now has decided he will sell but he is being mildly unreasonable on what he wants in my opinion.

There was never a real price told to me from the sart. Just a lot of "hem hawing".


My fault for getting tangled into it I suppose.

I agree with clipcloppop, show him the money. Also, I wouldn't antagonise him by telling him you think he is calling your bluff, even if he is. I'd keep my mouth shut until you have done the deal then let rip. Whats the delay with you paying him? He has agreed to sell to you - have you got the money? Give it as soon as and get him off the scene. Don't forget to get a receipt! Good luck xxx Let us know how you things turn out.

I have the money. I wanted to get her vet checked first but was waiting until we had a deal to book a vetting. I may not have time to do that now unless I can get the vet to pop out on Monday and look her over ( which may be possible). I am not anticipating any health issues with her though. He is busy all weekend and they do not do any business on Sunday so he said he would contact me Monday about coming by to pay him and have him sign the sale papers.


I think Monday or Tuesday we can have this wrapped up.
