As most of you will know I had to put my 9yr old mare to sleep at end of June as she developed a tumor in her chest.

I've struggled without a horse and really wanted a new one to focus on so i've been horse hunting.

I finally found a 7yo 15.2hh skewbald gelding called Bertie! He has mainly been doing prelim/novice unaffiliated dressage and hacking. He's a bit unbalanced and lazier than my mare but i'm sure I can sharpen him up a bit. His canter is sooo comfy and he seems like a really honest, safe little horse.

If he passes the vetting tomorrow he should be arriving about 29th! I havent been able to upload pics but here is his advert. What do you all think? :) I thought his conformation is quite good too.

I saw him and REALLY liked him! Was kinda hoping he might still be for sale when I'm hoping to look in a month or so!! ;)

Aren't you in Scotland now? He is a long way from you!

JoJo I think he looks lovely and hope all goes well with the vetting and that he turns out to be the new horse for you after all your recent heartache :)

Yes I am. I heard of a few good dealers down in Sussex and up here there isnt really any dealers and it was taking too much time and petrol to go see one horse at a time so I decided to go for a 2 day trip down to sussex and see lots of horses. The only reason I ended up going to see Bertie was because one dealer (who told me they had lots suitable in stock) only ended up having one for me to try as the others were too young and green or too expensive! So I had more time on my hands and Julia at Southgate farm let me come view Bertie after only giving her 15mins notice! I was the 2nd person to view him and she had about 3 more people booked in till I decided to buy him.

Julia is generally very good, my yard has lots of horses from her. Generally but unbalanced cobby types that turn into fab safe allrounders.

Should have let me know you were here! local

good for you happy ending updates on how you get on girl

I would love to do some CHAPs classes on him! His markings are lovely. Do you know if there is any CHAPS classes in Aberdeenshire? I have to save up for a little lorry now.

I am sooo shattered. Flew into Heathrow at 8am yesterday and flew out at 4pm today so it was a short trip!

Any news on the vetting yet?
And if not too late, do you think you could sneak the little foal for sale at the same yard 'Toy Story' in your car/trailer and drop off to me on your way back up north? :D

Vetting is at 4.15pm today so will reply as soon as I hear if he passes!

Haha that foal is very cute. I'm sending Eric Gillies down to collect him if he passes vetting so the foal would be soo tiny on their massive 10 horse lorries!

oooooh! I really like him, he is really nicely marked.
Best of luck and glad you've got some happy news after a rubbish couple of months x

Got my fingers crossed for you. And Eric Gillies very good. Have used a couple of times to travel my late boy to and from Darlington to Bedforshire when he went on loan to my friend up there. Very posh lorries!
Good luck :)

Grr noo. I havent had a call from the vets who were doing the vetting at 4.15 and now the office is closed till monday! They have an emergency number but I dont want to call that. :(

He passed!!! The vet just called and said out of all the horses he's vetted recently, Bertie is his fave. There was high winds today and it didnt phase him at all.

Two problems he found was, two sarcoids - one on his inner right thigh and one on his sheath but he didnt think that would cause much of a problem. The second was that he still has both his wolf teeth and neither have erupted through the gum. They are also about 2cm further forward than they should be. May cause bitting issues but my vet up here could easily remove them if they cause a problem!

So he's passed him for riding club, dressage, sjing which is what I want him for!
