Hi

I did post quite recently about my saddle moving, well the saddler came out today, and it needs to go back to Albion and have a new tree fitted. ( he has lost a lot of weight, fittened up as his feet are now finally sorted ) He is sore and luckily enough I have the physio out on Saturday.
So lots of ground work, long reining for us.
Any suggestions on how to vary what I am doing and any specfic excercise's.
Many Thanks

I am not brave enough to go bare back.

His back should be OK after treatment and a rest. Am hoping to get the the YM to get on him bareback in a weeks time. She loves riding bareback and is very balanced.

Lunging with a Pessoa or similar, long reining, loose jumping and if you can boorow a bareback pad (providing his back isn't sore) it will be good for both of you. No excuses for doing nothing unless you fancy giving him a holiday.

Is your horse a bit spooky? is that why you won't ride bare back?

Thanks re siggy. Prittstick did it for me..

Really not brave enough to go bareback on my 17 hand boy. Saddler said she might have a saddle I could have borrowed, but I wasn't that keen as I have just got him sorted and didn't feel it was worth the risk for a few weeks.

Am a bit gutted as he was booked in to a XC clinic with Lucy Thompson.

The only carrots going the near him will be ones he eats in feeds and carrot string,

loose schooling, see how light you can get him, will he change the rein from just a change of whip hand for example? Can you get him carrying himself lightly? Accuracy, can you get him going in and out of cones, doa figure of 8 etc? Teach things like leg yield in-hand, get doing fun and silly things! pm me if you'd like instructions.

Get a book on equine massage and spend the time you would have spent riding practicing that, or get your DVDs/magazines out and spend the time working on you, ready to wow him next time you're in the nice new saddle...

When do you find the time to ride???

my horse had a cut on his belly just where his girth gos,so had to ride bare back for about a month. It makes you a better rider in my opinion, great for balance. just hard in trot if your a bloke!!!!

Shame you dont like bare back.

I love riding my neddy without saddle, he is so quiet he can jump bare back, such good fun. He is only 15.1 though!

Have you done long reining before? Maybe you could give that a go. Then you can still 'hack out' and it gives you a bit of exercise too as well as helping your communication.

Blimey how come you have to wait 3 weeks for a new tree. Must admit I have recently had a nightmare with saddle fitting and Albion but after deciding I needed a new tree it was completed in 4 days. It isn't cheap though so good luck!

Saddle going off on Tues due to Bank Holiday. Then a couple of weeks from then. But if you say it only takes 4 days might have to have make a phone call

Its not cheap is it am curious how much did yours cost.

It took the saddler fitters 4 days to get it from albion then half day in workshop. £175 for new tree but did hear of someone who paid £150 for theirs.

jay is a spooky bugger & is 17hh, i love riding him bareback, also taking walks, long reining
