I Have Started Looking for a Horsebox and I Have a Request to all Sellers

Ta m'duck

I've only just started properly looking, as in this morning lol, but I'm frustrated already!

Also, hardly any pictures of the inside (horse area especially), and practically no mention of the floor condition.

I'm especially paranoid as I bought a lorry a few years ago. Had it just less than a year - everything that could rot had, and everything that could leak did. Sold it to someone who does them up and sells them on. I actually cried when Bessie Box went! That's soft even for me

We just bought our first lorry a month ago....I found finding one which wasn't too heavy was the main problem. I ended up getting mine from Tristar, they were very very patient with my many many questions!

And also include an active contact number rather than an unobtainable one, and preferably answer the blinking phone when a potential buyer rings.

When I was looking to buy there was a high amount of sellers who did not know anything about the weight side. I kept getting told "It can fit two big horses" Yes, I know two horses would FIT but it's illegal.

Ive just sold one and trawled through lots of adverts. Was amazed at how many people just gave a mobile number and didn't actually say whereabouts in the Country they were :( Also, I hate POA - always makes me think there is no way I can afford it, so I never ring!

Don't envy you going to see boxes, the low point I our search was driving from northumberland to Colchester . OH has spoken to the owner at length Who assured him it was coachbuilt and yes you have guessed it it was a conversion.
But it worked out best in the end as he got sick and ordered me a new one instead the day it came was one of the best ever ( sad I know ).

That one is better [and more expensive] than our house. My husband has said that if we sell just about everything we own,inc the pony,we could just afford it.

I agree with claireandnadia you need to know both it's max capacity weight and unloaded weight ESP in the 3.5 tonne ones as once it's fully loaded for the show it's probably overweight before the horses go in

We did this about 12 months ago looked at loads, wanted a 7.5 tonne, but no more than 5.7 unladen. And how many people we rang up who had no idea. We went to see one about 100 miles away. seller stated it was only 5.2 very light weight, stalled for 3 large horses, nice living. I got there and discovered immediately it was stalled for 4, and a huuuuuuuge living. and they had not got the actual weight, they had the original weight certificate from when it was an unconverted delivery lorry! total waste of time. It weighed 7.5 tonnes unladen on the last plating certificate! So no way was it ever going to be legal with one horse in let alone 4. We eventually decided to get a 2 horse 7.5 tonne with a nice living. Loads of available weight for the 2 large horses, it actually only weighs 5.5 tonnes so 2 tonne capacity. And we can all travel in comfort.

MrsM - what are you looking for? PM me if you would rather - I know of 2 lorries, both nice and reasonably priced - here in Shropshire

I can get all the required details for you :) :)

and sorry to hijack but if anyone knows of an automatic horsebox let me know !!! :)
getting kind of fed up looking now! rear facing auto horsebox under 10k cant be that hard can it!?

SF :D Living. Carry two big riding horses (must be herringbone). Cut through. Apart from that, open to suggestion! Not sure on budget - whatever I spend on buying the lorry takes away from my car budget

I know Priory Stud Horseboxes have just got one of these in to sell. No idea what it's like, price, etc. But might be worth a phone call. Google them for contact info.
