On Wednesday late afternoon, I was towing a trailer, luckily full of straw, when a boy racer came round the bend in front of me too fast. Suddenly faced with a set of headlights on my side of the road

. Short story: he got the back corner of the trailer, the back end of Friend's car (that was behind me), then went into a tree. Driver was okay, just a banged head. Friend is a nurse and took care of him. Friend's six year old daughter was hurt by the seatbelt and terribly upset. On the good luck side - had I been going any faster it would have been head on into me; if I hadn't had the trailer it would have been head on into Friend's car.

The grooms from the new (as in we've just moved there and hadn't even met them!) yard were absolute stars - they heard a horse trailer was involved in a crash and came to see if they could help . As there were no horses in the trailer, they kindly went and rescued our other daughters from where they were stuck (that's another story). Absolute stars!

Thank you

It's a horrible road

. I had to drive it a few more times and a van nearly took us out! What is it with people? It's a country road with little in the way of verges, and the surface is pretty rough in places.

Oh you poor crater, it's my worst nightmare. I neraly need valium, i'm so scared driving with jeep and box. If i can get anyone to come with me, and drive for me, i'm delighted. I'm such a wuss, i dont think i'd ever get back in. Well done!!!

I'm glad you're all OK. Its ridiculous the way so many drivers don't bother to stick to their own side of the road on country lanes. They've got a death wish - which is fine, but its not fine for the poor people they smash into.

urgh what a close call

the trouble is that 99 times out of 100 (or more) there is nothing coming the otherway so they get away with it which leads to complanency. I def think of what ifs more now than I used to.

Totally agree, too much complacency that's the problem, I think twice so much more with age and after my accident in June this year, leaves you quite fearful.
They drive like twits and sadly more often than not get away with it so see nothing wrong with it, they may not care, but I do, thoughtlessness through and through, and that drive me nuts.

I think he'd lost it before he came round the bend. It's quite tight and he over did the steering, which sent him snaking up the road and he couldn't get control back.

Given his age, and the fact that the police said they were going to prosecute, he won't be (shouldn't be!) driving again any time soon!

Good, he needs time to think about how to drive safely

Oh no - was he a young driver? You hear so many of these being killed. In fact where I once lived became known as the cursed village as a lot of young kids were killed in cars. I can see why they want to up the driving age.

Glad you weren't hurt - metal can be fixed!! mending broken people is not always so easy.
re presents for the grooms: chocs and a bottle of a little something

xx

Thank goodness you didn't have a horse in the trailer.
When a boy racer hit me head on 2 years ago the police asked us if we would allow him to be sent on a training course rather than prosecuted, to which we agreed. He still got hit by his insurance and got umpteen points but instead of a fine he had to pay to go on a weeks safer driving course.
Lovely grooms, plenty of chocs andf booze I think too!

Grrrrrrr! People driving too fast on the wrong side of the road really annoys me! I've had 2 boy racers crash into me on narrow country lanes going too fast! (No horse boxes involved thank god!) Glad youre ok and that no neddies were involved.
