I haven't cantered in almost a year :(

God its something i do almost everytime i sit on my horse... i'm lucky that my yard has an arena..

I dont canter on hacks as we dont have any off road hacking round my way but i do make a point of taking him to the forest every once in a while, its great fun.

Its one of my goals to take him to the beach, i love going for a gallop!!

For anyone who was interested in shock absorption differences, there's a fair illustration here... :)

Tallyho. That was really interesting. My friend ownS a mare who I'm interested in either loaning or buying amd I'd noticed that when she plants her back feet that her ankles rotates outwards. She is shod and has very soft thin soles and bruises easily. It was putting me off as I was concerned that there was an underlying problem. Owner says she wears her back shoes unevenly as well. Could this be the cause. She also does it on soft ground though.?

I'm not sure to be honest trasaM, it could be a number of things that can cause the foot to land unevenly - admittedly, shoes can be the cause but it could also be sacro-iliac issues. The question is, which came first? Through lots of research, the general consensus is that lack of stimulation to the heel of the foot can cause many issues. Positively, the majority of these cases do recover given better stimulation. If you go into hoofcare and veterinary, a few of us are having a discussion on toe first landing which you may find interesting :)
