still havent got ebs test back but i guess they have alot of horses
theres another one on her neck and she must of itched it because its red raw and open i was just wondering is there anyway of stopping her itching them?
and how far will they spread?

ps. please stop arguing, im very grateful for all your help and doing my best to answer so please if your just here to cause trouble on my post please dont bother :) thanks

The only way I'd know of of stopping her scratching them would be to put her out in an electric fenced paddock, but I don't think you can do that at your yard can you?

Your best bet would be to call your vet and ask him/her. They know what her 'rash' looks like, where it is and how best to treat/soothe.

No idea about the itching, your best bet will be to just keep a really close eye on her, slather in cream before she gets a chance to do anything! You could even ask friends on your yard to just pop some dollops of cream on when they're around her - leave the cream outside her door for example.

Good luck. No problem in politely ringing the vet to chase the results up. xxx

I'd say call the vets to for something to stop the itching and ask nicely if they have the results for the tests too :)
Was the other horse with the same vets? you could see how long it took them to get to the results back, may give you some idea :D

What treatment did your vet give you?

When one of mine had ringworm he was clear of the spots before the tests came back, that's how long they took!

Good for you for that final comment. You're absolutely doing the right thing asking for help from fellow horse owners. Ask away!!!

Hope Ebs is OK :)

Yes that would be what I would do, it is always distressing when they rub themselves raw like that :(

well the vets never rang for the other horse , they had to ask when the vets tested ebs so ill just have to ring them tomorrow as i think its far to warm/muggy for a rug and also its not going to cover her neck so pointless
thanks x

Have you not got a fly rug with a neck? I have loads... So if you are fairly local to me ( not sure as havent looked ) I am happy to drop one down for you to borrow? Not sure if it would make a huge difference, but it should only help...

Would rather not put in the post as it'd prob get lost....

Sudacream? Very soothing!

I would also say to try getting some Yarrow if you can. PM me if you need details :p It will soothw and promote healing, great stuff :)

Yarrow is a blue (very pretty) essential oil. I have used it on my horse who has recently had fairly hefty operations on both hocks, and also got caught in wire once and it cut so deep it was all of a millimeter away from her pastern joint. It has worked wonders on both! It also has calming (when inhaled) and anelgesic (pain killing) properties as well as soothing and aiding healing. Will PM you details if you like?

Wow, I sound like a walking advert for the stuff, I have no connection to it other than the fact that I have seen (and felt for myself on injuries) that it works :D

I think you need to pester the vets for the results! You need to get a fungicidal shampoo - either ask the vet or your local feed/horse place should have some. You normally put it on neat, leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse off, but please read the instructions! That should sort out the itching/rubbing. Be very careful of everyone who goes near or touches your horse! This could be catching and, yes, humans can get ringworm and it is not pleasant. I would keep a bucket of diluted disinfectant outside your stable and a note to advise people to wash their hands in it if they have touched your horse.
