About a girl who went quite a way to see a horse, liked it and bought it (cash I think). It was a 7yo sport horse type, done some sj at a low level etc, nice and safe. Asked for it to be delivered, got the horse and it wasn't the same horse (not sure if she was there when delivered or not). Turns out she now has a 3yo tb who can't turn corners, doubt has ever jumped and MAY be slightly lame behind. Dealer won't do a thing- denies everthing and there is no purchase receipt. Passport says the horse is a 7yo so I am going to scan it today and we will see if the chip matches.

I think this says a lot about how easy it is to be ripped off and how easy it is to rip people off!

Yikes.

Not nice!

I have to admit to being a bit of a suspicious so-and-so. When I go to buy a horse, etc., if I can't take it home with me straight away, I take pictures of markings and whorls.

What does the passport say? It 'should' be easy enough to prove that a three year old is a three year old and not a seven year old.

There have been a few threads on here this weekend that highlight the importance of getting a detailed receipt. Its another reason to have the horse vetted and bloods taken too.

Poor girl.

Oh totally. I haven't seen the passport but that may be a way to get her money back if she wants to pursue it, selling a horse with the wrong passport? I think she just wants shot of it but it's only worth about 300 squid rather than the 1200 she paid :(

While I feel sorry for the girl (did she have a vetting done?) I do feel more sorry for the horse. I hope she doesn't 'get shot of it' and gives it a chance but I guess as it's not what she wanted it will get passed on pretty quickly.

Can she not pursue this through the small claims court? Not sure how it works but just an idea.

I do too (I actually don't know her at all) and no she didn't do anything (as far as I know) that she should have done. The horse is a rather nice little thing and has been temporarily given to a very good trainer to see if she will be any good for what he does. If she isn't, she will be at least trained and found a good home.

Trading Standards will definitely be interested if passport does not match horse

I would be pleased if you would PM me the sellers name
Thank you

trading standards might very well be interested but there is no real help to pursue these matters.
Out of interest what area was the horse bought.?

I don't know the sellers name I'm afraid, it was Derbyshire if I remember correctly. I could be wrong though, it was told to me second hand.

oh thanks ... i was just curious. There are some sharks out there... Its such a terrible blatant rip off and no one to take it seriously. Things are so tough and horses getting harder and harder to shift. I guess the dodgy dealers are becoming more and more desperate. :-(

**UPDATE**

The mare was from Durham, rather a dodgy dealer who has been mentioned here before- I won't say his name but I think you could probably guess. He has been done by trading standards before. Horse that the girl wanted was a 12yo ISH 15.2hh and was sent a 15.2 bay 7yo (apparently) ex racer

I accidentally now own the horse...... Oh dear, I really didn't need another one but she is very sweet and there was talk of pts as she kicked someone this morning :(

This man, (poor excuse for one) Mr P McT if I guess right, sells lots on Horsemart, not surprised he doesnt know one from another. Hope if works out for the poor horse.

Hahaa, thanks guys although pts isn't all bad I think she could maybe become a nice enough little thing- or does anyone else want a project? Takes my tally up to 5!

Izzwizz- you're right on the money! Oh, and the passport DOES match the horse so either my teeth reading skills have gone BADLY wrong or something weird has happened- the mare does windsuck so has some excess wear on the front 2 anyway but it seems odd. The passport says rising 7 and the chip matches but the passport was applied for in 2008 (although examination says it was done in 2004, as a foal). I suppose it's quite possible that the passport was lost and re-applied for but I am in a suspicious mood...

Any ideas?
