I thought sod it in the end and whipped it all off. I love it. She really suits it. Instead of looking top heavy she actually looks more balanced now. Shes till got weight to lose but shes chubby rather than really fat now. She actually seems happier as well. Apparently shes been merrily trotting round her paddock all morning with her tail in the air trying to get people to look at her.

It doesnt really come across in photos just how much she has changed. But here she is the day I viewed her and today.

I'm very much a hogging convert since we did The Beast. 😁 Love it, your mare looks really smart and it's so much easier to deal with than a thick mane.

Very smart;)

Do you still have your coloured gelding you used to drive LW?

He very nearly ended up PTS as he was jumping out of his field and then started jumping out of his stable. But at the last minute my friend offered to take him, so hes gone on permanent loan. He lives out on 20 acres surrounded by 10 foot high hedges, and with a little herd of other cobs, including a foal which he has adopted. I think the daft sod thinks its his! He gets ridden by the kids and my friend has actually just started riding him as well despite not knowing how to ride. Hes so chilled out and happy. I didnt want him going to a riding home as he never really seemed happy being ridden, but they only hack or bimble about in the field and he loves it. I guess he just had enough and wanted a quiet no pressure home, and thats what I managed to find for him. They are besotted with him and think hes the best thing ever. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him though. I don't think I will ever have another like him again.

Bless him he sounds really happy where he is, it's not ideal having them jumping out they can seriously injure themselves.

That's lovely news, so glad for both of you that you managed to find somewhere that suits him. And I agree with everyone else - the new girl looks great hogged!

She looks fab!! What’s your weight loss secret, if you don’t mind me asking?

Shes actually out 24/7 on reasonable grass which is now starting to look poor so shes getting hay as well. She gets a balancer, salt and a tiny handful of Copra so still being fed. Its work that's made the difference with her. Shes worked in a 3 acre field, its got lots of little slopes and ditches and longish grass so she has to pick her feet up. We lunge or long rein up and down that. The first time we did it I'm not sure how she managed to stay on her feet and we stayed in a very slow trot. She made such a noise I though she would need a wind op! Now shes cantering nicely, in balance and no noises. She does that 3 or 4 days a week and the other days is brain training rather than fattening as shes not quite 5 yet and work is a new concept to her. Shes feeling VERY well and does tend to exercise herself now as well. Shes quite often found cavorting round her paddock.

I have previously had them out on a bare lot with tiny amounts of hay and lots of chopped straw though. That was a horse for whom exercise made no difference whatsoever though!

She should be driving in the next couple of weeks and I suspect she will actually need feeding then. Driving seems to burn calories like nothing else!

She looks fantastic with and without hair, but much better without. I am a huge fan of hogging, so much easier to maintain. I have just bought your mare's doppleganger!

I think there must be a few about. I was helping at a show last weekend and I genuinely thought Bobbie walked past. I had to go over and speak to them and see for myself. It was the absolute double of her, but still hairy. Same sort of age as well. Makes me wonder if theres a cobby stallion out there that really stamps his stock.
