We sold my daughters SJ pony to a 'forever' home back in May, on the understanding that if it didn't work out / they couldn't keep her for whatever reason, however stupid, I'd have first refusal and buy the pony back if they wanted to sell her on. She wasn't the easiest of ponys and has had a rough time in the past so I just wanted to look out for her in the future (she's 14 now...)

Today, I find out that not only has she been sold on BUT the new people are selling her on and she's entered in a SALE RING on Saturday

I have tried to get the new peoples details without any success so I'm obviously going to have no bl**dy option but to go and buy her through the sale ring.

I really don't care about the money (OH would beg to differ - literally

) but I just want the pony to be looked after - I'm dreading seeing her as I've no idea what kind of state she's in. So, off to the bank tomorrow to withdraw a load of cash so there can be no quibble at the auction.

Poor Lucy pony - why do people find it so difficult to do what they said they would??

Sorry - rant over......

Poor Lucy!

I also find it very difficult to understand why people dont do what they said they would do. Doesnt make no sense at all, the owners knew you would have her back and surely would been alot easier than adverstising her for sale.

Hope it all goes well Saturday and you manage to get her back.

I hate when people do that rather than admitting they made a mistake or bit off more than they could chew.

I don't know about the sales near you but down here the prices are rock bottom so you may not have to spend too much...

Lucky Lucy having someone who loves her enough to go and buy her!

I sold a horse to what i was assured was a good for ever home, "come and see her when you like" "she will never be sold" yeah right, horse was sold six weeks later for three times more money and a whole pack of lies told about her, the forever home was a very dodgey dealer buying/selling as private!!

sadly no one can guarantee a forever home and altho i fully understand how upset and angry you are, once you have sold a pony or horse they are out of your control and the new owner can do as they wish with them.
It also happens the other way, owner/breeder assures buyer that they'll take pony/horse back if the need arises but then refuses to when asked, hence why i am temporarily looking after a yearling who is looking for a new home as his breeder didn't want him and neither did his owner!!

Thanks for all your support, I was devastated when we sold her cos we'd rehabilitated her when we bought her (she'd been seriously abused) - I only sold her because I was so sure that these people would love her to bits (I even checked up on them through friends etc).

I just have to hope that they turn up with the pony on Saturday (she doesn't travel well in a trailer so hopefully she'll get there in one piece

) and that we manage to bid successfully for her (shouldn't be difficult - she bites, kicks and is generally agressive to strangers / when under stress )

One things for sure, if she comes home, she won't be leaving again......

Will let you know how we get on

I have had this happen on both sides of the coin , I sold my 14.2hh I had when I was 18 , Told them to let me have first refusal if and when they where going to sell him and they sold him onto a dealer who then sold him over to england
frown.gif

I then bought tiarnan a pony , people said that they would take pony back if it didnt work out , Pony started changing tiarnan out of the field everytime he went in , I marched the pony back to the owners and they said that they didnt want the pony

What sh*tty people!!! Gurr!!

Are you still able to buy horses before they go into the sale ring at auctions? This might save you a bit of stress even it it means you have to pay more.

*ugh* sadly nothing surprises me, cretins that would do this deserve what they get IMO, karma is a b*tch that shows no mercy in time and no, nobody can guarantee a forever home but ANYONE with a shred of dignity and decency about them WOULD do what they said wouldn't they knowing the old owner may possibly care enough to have them back AND pay what they paid back too - it shows how little someone cares about a horse to NOT do it IMO, own selfish needs before the animals *sigh* very sad indeedy do! *rollseyes*

jeez, it's even more insulting to you because it's not like you'd have not paid what they did to have her back and yet she's been put through all this!

poor you though, not a stress you SHOULD have by any means, and I hope you get her back, I know I'd do anything it takes should it happen to mine that's for sure, good luck! *hug*

What an awful situation.
Good luck.

I see you're in Scotland and was just wondering what sales it is she is at/you're going to. Purely out of curiousity. Sorry if it's intrusive.
